Nick. You don't need a full system to make your car louder. Just rear mufflers will do. A lot of members have done either full cat backs, just mufflers or gone all out and done headers and the whole system. All of which will gain you sound but not much to be had on power increase if non turboed. A good cat back for the 2.5 is the Xforce 2.25" set up with your choice of Xforce or any other after market mufflers.

Ric really should look into creating a section just for exhausts so all this info can be collated in the one place.
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

Mat04, at first thats what i was thinking as I'm only 17 and i don't have lots of money to waste on a full exhaust system, the thing i was worried about is if i only change the mufflers i know it will be louder but I'm not sure if it will be a nice tone, has anybody else changed the mufflers on their car?

Just drill a hole in it

Seriously though, if budget is tight just get some different mufflers. A fairly easy way to determine the sound, take off your mufflers (four bolts) and start it up. Imagine that but quieter, and you have your noise. I think I have a video of mine without the mufflers from when me and my mates were bored...

If you can afford it, do a catback. As previously said, Xforce make a nice system, otherwise most exhaust shops can custom fabricate one up pretty cheap, if you are local to one.
