Muffler Size

Postby phuriouss » Thu May 16, 2013 10:57 pm

Hi guys,

Just wanted to know what the biggest size muffler tips I can fit on MY05 GT Sedan, w/o cutting the bumper?
Any clue what size the stock ones are?
I am thinking of getting 3.5 inch sized mufflers.
Any advice on the topic would be appreciated.
Thanks for the help!

I believe the cut outs are smaller for the prefaclift? Probably best to measure it

I have seen 4.5 tips on Xforce mufflers on sedans. I got them on my wagon with heaps of room

4.5 inch?? How loud would that be??
Is that a defect? That's insane! Anyone out there running bigger mufflers? Haha
have my eye on some Varex mufflers if I can save up enough money, if not my brother's got some 4 inch canons lying around and was thinking of fitting them up to the GT!
What do you guys reckon?

It's not the tips that produce the high db, it's the rest of the exhaust which is the contributing factor. So really, you could have 4.5" tips on stock mufflers and still be legal

As a guide, my 3" catback xforce system with straight through oval mufflers and 4" tips produced 89db. Added a 3" dump pipe and it went up to 93db. Legal limit being 90db.

If you want a bit of variable subtlety, I'd save for the varex. Imo it's the better option.
If you want loud, just weld on the cannons until the novelty wears off :P

Thanks for explaining that to me! OOFFT 93 dB thats awesome lol
So if I understand correctly, just changing the mufflers will make it louder than stock but won't be enough to be defect?
I was thinking of just getting the canons fitted til I have enough for the varex! haha

FYI varex mufflers are more defectable than being over 93db in sound
