IS IT SAFE TO BUY USED EXHAUSTS?

Postby peadya100 » Wed Feb 20, 2013 7:41 am

Hey guys,
can anyone tell me if its safe to buy used exhausts? Ive been speaking to someone thats selling a used stainless 3" exhaust and they claim its done 10,000kms. I know stainless is long lasting so im not worried about the piping, more the mufflers and cat.

Also, does anyone know if the exhaust for a sedan will fit a wagon?

It should be right mate, especially if its only done 10k and is stainless.

Only thing to look out for is the sedan tips will look very short on a wagon, so budget to get them extended or don't buy it.

Drone is another thing to be aware of in a wagon...what brand is the exhaust?

Thanks Ryan!
Its only the dump pipe, centre pipe, and y pipe. Its Xforce, which is the exact exhaust system i was going to get MSR to put on in a few weeks. Im keeping the standard mufflers to avoid the drone, so the tip length issue doesnt worry me.

It would save me a few hundred dollars getting the used one, but is it worth risking it to save a few hundred? The seller could easily be lying to me about kms.

The guy originally told me the exhaust had done 10,000kms.. now hes told me he bought the car with it on it. I highly doubt its only done 10,000kms then. Might steer clear of this one. :?

If the cats busted...just punch it out :D that's what the Silvia boys do!

Edit: it will also flow better! But your car will stink and the EPA kinda look down on that kinda thing.

Haha I actually did that to my first car.. made a huge improvement but definitely not going to make me any friends at the EPA.

If you have catalyst monitoring (O2 sensor in front and behind each cat) as part of OBDII compliance it will log a code.

Update: I bought the used exhaust. I can say it looks good on the outside hahaha
Seriously though I can see through the hotdog, doesnt seem to have any build up and looks pretty good. Cant see into the cat though so time will tell when it goes on and gets tuned.
