STi/WRX widebody sedan mufflers modded for GT-B wagon

Exhaust modifications

The tips are actually welded onto the pipe so can't do that either. Only option would be replacing 4 tips which will be hefty considering how much modification is required

EOI for anybody who is interested in putting these on their wagon. If muffler location including flanges and hangers are the same on wagon, should be cheap mod to extend and position inside cutout.

Anyone able to measure wagon's cutout width?

The only solution for me is to get new tips to fit which is going to cost $200 altogether for 4 SS tips and labour. Not sure if its worth the dosh to get these to fit flush with the bumper.

Ended up rewelding the tips back on.

Perhaps wide body wrx/sti mufflers will only fit wagon libs?

They fitted BBB's wagon, might be the earlier model rear bumper cutout is smaller

can confirm as far as i know that prefacelift exhaust cutouts taper in a little whereas postfacelift don't, had the same issue with the magnaflow quads when i got them, they fitted on a post-fl lib but didnt exactly on mine. just got the cutout plastic trimmed a bit and all good to go :)

Bates: I'm tempted! I'm assuming you had no structural issues with the bumper deforming after trimming the cutouts?

Ideally I'd like to get the tips with just a little clearance from the cutout - for acoustic reasons mainly as the alignment is just ok using shims in the hangers and zip ties... :P

nah no issues, can't imagine it would create any problems as its not that much that ended up being trimmed

Update: my tune was revised by Matt resulting in a big difference to the exhaust note: apart from the popping being greatly reduced, the off-idle boom is gone and the tone in general is much quieter and more civilised.
A great result meaning I'm really happy with my choice parts ;)

Her Ladyship approves ;)
She was even aboard whilst the road tune was happening.

Adding a second cat should civilize the Lib even more.

ha ha that's what it comes down to these days isn't it, so long as the other half is happy! I just have to figure out more excuses as to why I need my upcoming mods

So it's still evident?
My car never used to pop before I had the tune, even with all those mods on the car making it run richer it didn't pop.

It's now a chunky gargle when lifting between gears.
No more backfiring.
My guess is 3" dump and mid is overkill on an otherwise stock GT-B.
I do like this combination of zorst and tune so far. :-)
Car feels quite zippy, max boost is well below 18psi and it sounds great.
Just about "mission accomplished"...

update:

didn't really end up doing anything about the tips but hooked them up to a x-force mid and y pipe on my stock GT. result = deeper and more pronounced throaty tone.

going to post them up for sale for anyone who is interested, going to look to upgrade to something else!

Cross posted from this thread about STi/WRX widebody sedan catback onto 3RB wagz

This is dle's set with un-modded tips and hangers that allow the muffs to sit around 1/2" to 1" lower in order to clear the small preFL sedan bumper cutout...
versus
My set with extendo tips and higher hangers that gave a nice flush fit in my postFL wagon bumper cutouts.

Both sets have the inlet flange cut, rotated, re-angled and shut to fit the stock Lib Y pipe or upgrade, a step you are avoiding with the WRX STi sedan mid...

I know this is an old thread but has anyone seen the inside of one of these mufflers as opposed to the Liberty ones? They look identical besides the tips that's all and I have only seen the internal design of the GT mufflers, not the STI with twin tips.

I am just not sure why they would change them for the WRX. I can understand a slight difference between the single and twin tip variants but between two twin tips? I would have thought unlikely.

Is the body of the muffler itself shorter? Any help appreciated as I am planning on tinkering ;).
