Exhaust Note desire

Postby sti_stig » Thu Oct 25, 2012 11:53 pm

Hi Guys,

In the process of finalising an upgrade from my beloved 4gen post facelift 2.0R up into the 4gen post facelift H6 liberty. I will be doing minor customisation to the car and was wondering what exhaust the twin turbo H6 "Bullit" liberty is running?

I wish to bring out the boxer growl and have it sounding almost like a porche when I jump on the gas. Would really enjoy it sounding somewhat to the note being put out by the "bullit" liberty.

Can you please point me in the right direction?

Ta,
Mick

i daresay that system would be custom. might also be the slight issue of you missing twin turbos for that sound.
boxer growl is also rather different to H6 engine

am getting K2 headers put on tomorrow, maybe they will make the car sound more porsche-like :D will let you know

Member Kiks had an H6 that had the growl. The system was/is for sale - look up the spec FTW!
Also check out the Tradewind headers...
I'm working on an OEM spec budget stock upgrade with a buddy, more soon!

Turbo and inlet pipe would play a big part in the sound of the exhaust. I didn't know this until I upgrade both. My car sounded awesome when I upgraded the full turbo back...but then once my turbo and inlet pipe were upgraded and also upgraded to FMIC, it has had the added side effect of really improving the exhaust note and noise. It sounds so mean now and is louder from the outside but still relatively quiet in the cabin. I would say that if you used the exact same exhaust as the twin turbo H6, it would sound different on your car.

Kiks mentioned the P word in his posts. I'll dig up the linkage :P

TCP resonated 3" centre and 2.5" split to stock muffler flange location. Direct bolt in for you GT guys. $100 modification from an exhaust shop for 3.0 guys.

I think Kiks deleted the post I'm referring to. It was in his original pre part out Gen4 3.0RB lib wagon FS or his member profile related to that.

What im after is tame-ish on idle and porche-like on throttle.

Turbos are known to mute the exhaust note somewhat. So going a 3" Center to 2.5" Y should be great, final note dependent on if headers, what Center resonator and how extreme or not the muffs.
Budget solution: delete stock resonator for straight through pipe, for a deeper note... :D
A member here deleted the muffs altogether for straight through to tips and loved it! (Jelwin? H6)
