Sorry if this has been covered before. I did a search and couldn't find much information relating to the Subaru Liberty.
Just curious to know if anyone has installed these electric exhaust cutouts before? I guess they work on the same kind of principle as the Varex exhaust.
I heard one installed on a clubsport which the bloke had installed for $300. Purchased it off ebay and had his mechanic install it. It really rumbled and had such a nice note to it when it was open.
My mate is about to pull the trigger and buy one for his WRX, however he already has an exhaust system and I told him the Varex may work better for him to choose between loud or quiet.... What do you think?
I have read on some other forums that DMH Performance have some of the better quality ones that dont leak (although Im not sure if they post to oz. Contacted them but no response yet).
My car is completely stock and it might be nice to be able to choose when it is ridiculously loud or switch back to stock exhaust flow to make it quiet again. Still not 100% sure though that this will be worth it for me.
A few questions for anyone that might have experience on these things.
Do you think installing one of these will result in the need for a tune?
How do you think the car will cope with changing from 1 setting (completely open) to the next setting (completely stock) at the push of a button?
Where is a good place to install the actual cutout?
Where is a good place to mount the switch?
Are these things legal?
Thanks
Here are a couple of links showing the cutouts operating for anyone that is interested.
