Exhaust Drone

Postby SubaruTim » Fri Aug 10, 2012 11:58 pm

Hi All,

I've just had the exhaust upgraded on my '92 Liberty and i really love the sound :D :D
**BUT** i feel that the loud and low drone that is heard at low revs in the cabin is enough to ruin it.

From what I was told / can see on the invoice i've had the following installed:

BS0805 UNI. Sports 57/350 o/c Assuming this is the muffler
HD12300P HOT DOG Pretty sure this is the resonator
2.25" Piping Self explanatory.

Will it simply be a case of swapping the muffler? Hopefully for something quieter that will still maintain the subi rumble just without the loud / annoying volume. As it is, i'm told by people that it's not considered that loud at all but it's enough to annoy me.

What is your suggestion?

I'd try a big 14 inch or 16 inch resonator in center pipe.

Yep a bigger resonator will help.
You can even put 2 in for real grandpar spec.

Hmm I'm finding mine to be droney too and considering options..

Would resonator put a "restriction" on the airflow/power etc?

I had a feeling that would be the suggestion.

The tone and pitch of the note sounds awesome with the subi unequal length headers it's just the resonation that really puts me off.
I don't want scoobie sounding like my boss's (boganish) Marloo ute :P

I would be more than happy to have 90% of the resonation cut out, I assume that putting in a larger resonator would do this as well as drop off the volume?

Cheers!
