hi everyone.

So, I purchased my car a few months back with an existing 2.75 custom exhaust system. the stock cats have been modified and aftermarket mufflers installed. I want to determine the make of these mufflers, just for pure curiosity. I'm fairly happy with the sound, although if a set of phat quads came up at the right price... I might give them a go.

Since my mufflers are welded on, not bolted, what would be involved in order swap the mufflers, or detach the mufflers to change them to a bolt on setup for the future? Would I need to mod the pipes the mufflers are attached to also?

If you wanted bolt on bolt off you could always just weld some flanges on. Easy as cutting desired section and welding 2 flanges on and whala bolt together. As for removing welded mufflers, I haven't ha a good look at my liberty but on my magna it was a pain to do as you had to drop the whole rear section off all hangers to cut through the pipe. 9 inch grinder is too dangerous above your head laying on your back under a car.

anyone know where i could pick up some flanges or how much an exhaust place would do this for? what would the size of the flange have to be, or would i need to measure?

You should measure the pipe to make sure you get the right size flange.

Any good auto part store should stock or be able to order in flanges.

For 2 mufflers cut off weld 4 flanges and bolt back up probably cost around $150 mark but it's only a half hour job.
If you were in Sydney I would offer to do it for you but being more than a couple of 100 kms away I don't think it would be cost effective.

dont forget the gaskets!

EDIT: also, youll need to measure the pipes from other mufflers for a flush fitment in the chance you do get a new set. Which, your best off waiting to do the work until you get your hands on a new set of mufflers.

is there a standard size that would match most mufflers for the lib or are most different? such as STI mufflers, TCP, Phat quads or anything like that.

Only if the existing piping runs the exact same route as the stock setup. If it was custom, chances are it wouldn't line up, and if you put on a flange and fitted other mufflers, it wouldn't sit/point right.

Food for thought.

The system is "custom" made, but I'm not sure if the setup has actually changed from stock...might have to investigate
