Hi all,

I have a LIberty GT MY10 and had an install of the Xforce Varex catback system. Im loving it and my wife still does not know that I have it hehe.
I recently visited tunehouse for some advice and upgrades and they told me that the xforce damages the engine in the longrun.
Can anyone confirm if this is true or is this another scare tactic like my best friends at MRT use ?

there is a general negative response to MRT on this forum Gene, even tho i dont have the slightest of experience with varex as i've never used them, i dont think they would be bad for your car

I have read that if the butterfly valves are closed on the varex and you're under full open throttle, it can damage the internals as the butterfly valves are a restriction. I can't back this statement up with any personal experience though. With the valves open, I don't see any troubles.

The valves are closed about 25% of time and when they are i never drive the car hard.
If anyone has experienced any problems, let me kno. Thanks for your help.

Dont get me started on my experience at MRT. Its amazing how they can still function as a "reputable" business.
If I flushed $2500 of my hard earned cash into a toilet there would be no difference as to giving it to MRT.

Yep! i can vouch for this one (not me, but a 'friend')

Isnt everything we do and talk about a defect At least I have a switch to turn off should they approach me.

MRT Story Time;
Last year I had a Forester GT MY09 and wanted a Ecutek tune, brake pads and front and rear swaybars.
Left the car for a day and received a call at 4.15pm saying the car was ready. I came at 4.30pm and I had to wait 2 hours for the car. As I paid I was told that the brake pads could not be put on because they didnt fit (after I paid!?!?) and that the car couldnt be tuned properly because I had not used 98 fuel. I was told to come back and make another booking for the brake pads and retune. I argued and got refund for the brake pads and agreed to come back next week for another tune....
Unfortunately, 1 week later the car was smashed into. After it was repaired I called MRT and asked them to retune again and they said that I was to be charged again. I told them !#@$!%@^!%@^!
Funnily i received a call from MRT asking about the level of service etc....Once again i told them !#$@$!%^@&!^#

Unless you driving it constantly with it closed, I don't see what would make it bad.

No different to a standard exhaust that is restrictive anyway. Wouldn't be my pick of exhausts but they do the required job

There is nothing wrong with it.

No more restrictive when closed as a stock muffler.

this is my guideline with my varex setup...I got 2 duals running

sport sharp = fully open since it was tuned in that condition

sport = half way open ( I avoid hammering it in this mode as you do feel the restriction when you boot it, would be nice to see exhaust temps, but i can say it can't be good for the car long term )

intelligent = fully closed

Call me out if im wrong but i was under the impression that when the valve is closed the gas is just redirected through more baffels like a stock exhaust. then with valve open it directs some gas straight out (if not all). a lot of high end car manafacturers use this system by having it partialy closed during intial acceleration to give torque down low then gradually open up for more power up high in the rev. very much like variable intake runners on some cars and bikes.
So like others have mentioned even with the valves closed it should not be any more restrictive then the stock mufflers.
