Canberra Exhaust Shops

Postby nickknack » Thu Apr 19, 2012 12:03 am

Can anyone recommend any decent exhaust shops in the ACT? I'm after a custom turbo-back for my B4 in the near future, and would prefer if it's done by someone who has some experience with the TTs.
I'm happy to travel to Sydney if there aren't any though
Otherwise are there any reasonably-priced systems commercially available for the B4? From what I can gather there's the MRT at close to $3k, and some other companies that sell just the dumps for $1k+.

Another question, is the note of the exhaust mostly determined by the muffler? I.e., if I pick the same muffler as someone in the exhaust sound thread with a GEN4 am I likely to get a similar sound?
(New to car modification here, I'm sure you can tell haha :? )

Mate,

you have a B4. it will NEVER sound like any other car.
but overall the pipe size and length will drastically alter the not that gets to the muffler.

but go and see Mick at TechWorkz and discuss your exhaust needs.
he knows his TT libs, still hates working on them (like all of us TT owners) but he knows them

however here is what my Legacy had on it.

2.5" dump with divorced wastegate on the primary
3" dump on the secondary
3" collector into a 3" MetalCat
3" centre section with massive hot-dog
2.5" diff-back section with Supercat rear muffler.

sounded very nice and not overly loud.
to drop the noise a little you can lower the centre section down to 2.5" piping and hotdog,

but they never sound like a Single-turbo subie as the exhaust headers are very different.

But your best option is to convert the car to single turbo.
TT's have too many problems and are underwhelming in performance for what they should be capable of
the standard exhaust headers and up-pipe are a sh!t design that restricts power and economy.

I have heard nothing but praise about Techworkz so looks like I'll have to pay them a visit!

But otherwise I'm very happy with the car in TT guise. I would consider a single conversion if the engine blows but for now I think I'll stick with the twins :D

Are there any decent off-the-shelf exhaust for the B4 other than MRT's, or is custom the way to go?

most WRX cat-backs can be modified to suit
but the OTS dump-pipes are way over-priced
and a full custom job will simply get you a better fit every time.
