Exhaust modifications

More power, Less Noise

Postby threeRB » Thu Apr 12, 2012 6:45 pm

Hi guys,
Was looking at upgrading my exhaust system on my 05 3RB. As the title states, I am chasing a bit more punch, but dont want the noise that comes with it.
Can yous recommend me anything or have had experience with this.
Cheers

I don't think you can. Making an engine silent reduces its efficiency. So, if you free up the exhaust a bit you inprove the efficiency, which results in more power and better fuel consumption. But freeing up the exhaust means more noise. It doesn't have to be outrageously noisy though, but if you really want to inprove it I don't think you can have it totally quiet like with the standard exhaust.

keep stock mufflers, y-pipe and centre section
replace cats with high-flow versions
remove third cat completely and replace with simple 2-1 collector

win!
