Sometimes heavy traffic is unavoidable and whilst my air-con works well I much prefer fresh air:

On an otherwise stock MY07 GT B, would having wrapped headers, up-pipe and dump; plus a turbo blanket/beanie (if that's possible), keep engine bay temps down enough that 30 minutes in very slow traffic, wouldnt have my fresh air intake blowing hot... and generally prevent or limit what seems to be excessive heat in the engine bay?

The temp gauge sits at 9 o'clock no matter what the car is doing, once warmed up. Naturally I'd be getting a tune to suit the above.

This is something I'm researching for the long term reliability and enhancement of an already awesome vehicle so school me!!!

if your fresh air blows hot with the a/c on then the a/c is at fault. the underbonnet temps shouldnt effect the air temps inside the car very much. the a/c is meant to be coming out at approx 4degrees at the centre vents, 8 degrees is acceptable on a hot day (40degrees ambient) stopped in traffic, but it is starting to get a bit high and may need a regas and new seals.

It seems a re-gas never hurts, but just wondering if it's ok that it will blow rather warm air on "vent" (not ac), especially if stopped in slow traffic?

Anyhow it's winter now and the Sube just LOVES the cooler weather!
I've also invested in an ECUdatascan and I'm monitoring intake and coolant temps, just keeping an eye on things...

If the ac is switched off then yes you will definitely get warm air coming in, but tinkering under the bonnet will make little difference to the fan temps in the car. you may find a 1-2degree drop under the bonnet (which could hugely improve your cooling system performance, and mildly improve engine performance) will make like 0.5 degree difference in the car. honestly, just switch the ac on, if its too cold slide the temp lever over a bit so its not all cold air. You can use the ac with the fresh air option.

or is it the dryness of the ac that you dislike? (my brother finds it drys out his eyes) cos opening a window may be more effective that the fan to keep you cool.

Your AC should never need regassing, if it does, you have a leak in the system or a compressor issue.
It's advised to turn the AC on for 5 mins everyday (within reason obviously) just to lubricate the system.

Benny, just pop the AC on recirc when sitting still, then to fresh air when moving. This should realistically happen automatically if the HVAC is set to AUTO. There's no harm in wrapping/heat coating the exhaust, but may be overkill on a standard system.

when i buying my car i took it for a few days and it was rather warm and noticed the ac not working very well i thought it might be my underdriven pulleys and the cooler system and i opted to get it checked anyway the condensor was blocked and was causing the gas pressure on the high side to sky rocket, mind u this is a car with 26k at the time. A blocked condensor with the pressures running high would kill the compressor fast so i had it replaced.... work paid half i paid the other half worked out to 600 or so $$

IMO get it checked out before it fucks itself

For sure, car is due for service at Docklands STi (full book to date) so if it's still doing weirdish things I shall call on your connect!
Meanwhile all is safe, I'm getting my head around a few engine parameters using an ECUdatascan which is very helpful in understanding just what goes on in there!
You could be monitoring your fuel pump and injector duty cycles for example... No laptop required. Happy to loan out mine too BTW.
