Hi Guys just after some advice on an exhaust for my liberty. want a bit more of a note over the stock one. dont want it to loud as use it for buisness. Any help would be great. the car will also have a tune once the exhaust is done.

Welcome to the forum.

I'd suggest firstly having a listen to some of these clips and see what you like.

viewtopic.php?f=55&t=2382

Then perhaps attend a meet and listen to some of your options in real life if you need further convincing.

And finally either wait for a set to come up for sale in the classifieds and commercial vendors here, or via shops such as Tuspeed, AVO, ebay etc.

I personally have the AVO dump pipe, AVO exhaust mid section and have retained my STI mufflers. Probably considered one of the more quiet options.

Are you looking at any further upgrades further down the track as this may influence some of the advice you'll receive.

Cheers

Yes it's in the exhaust clips thread as well as my profile thread.

a lot of the exhausts on the market are really loud and you may be disappointed with the outcome (like i was).

My suggestion is to do what Bruce has done. Get a decent downpipe and 3 inch Centre & Y pipe upgrade and keep the standard mufflers.

You get most of the benefits of a full exhaust without the loud noise.

My tuner said the rear mufflers only make about 2kw difference at 6200rpm anyway.

X Force have Varex mufflers which have an electronic switch which changes from quiet to loud at a flick of a button. (They quote around $2,000 for a turbo back system with Varex Mufflers).

Apparently stock GT B muffs have similar flow to STi muffs.
Some members have also gutted their stock GT B mufflers for slightly more flow & note.

Aparently there isn't much difference in flow or noise between the standard GT mufflers and the STI mufflers. The STI mufflers flow slightly better.

I'm put my standard mufflers and y pipe back on to quieten it down, then sold my cat back system to a member who wanted the loud exhaust.

I'm planning to get an X Force or similar 3 inch Centre & Y pipe shortly but retain my standard mufflers to keep it quiet and stock looking (should boost power by about 7-8 awkw).

Best bet is to attend a meeting and listen to other members exhausts and get the best sounding system for your tastes and budget.

My tuner (MSR) says the standard mufflers start only being restrictive after about 230awkw.

My plan is to do the (as suggested) dump & mid, with my stock GT B muffs - maybe with custom twin tips/straight-through gutted options :D ...
Choosing which dump pipe (epic discussions on the forum) is the other fun bit to research!
