Just wondering if you ended up getting this done? I guess I have a similar setup (Phat DP, X-Force center, TCP mufflers) and the drone between 1500-3500 RPM is getting a bit old...

Just as a side note, I assume that auto transmissions are worse for drone than manuals :?:

It all comes down to the rear mufflers.

I have an auto with Phat dump, 3" Xforce centre and Prova rear mufflers with no drone at any rpm level and barely audible when cruising at 60, 80 or 100km/h.

Thanks for the advice Mark. Can I ask where you got them from (and how much?)

Bought here from another member. Best sounding muffler ive had on the GT yet after STi quads, HKS Legamax and TCP quads.

Can also be had from Import Monster.....

Digging up an old thread. I ended up buying the muffler from ebay that Gambit mentioned somewhere in his build log and had it fitted to replace the centre resonator today. Has greatly reduced the noise and drone of the TCP exhaust but kept the nice sounding deep note. Very happy I don't need to lose the excellent looking rear mufflers.

Exhaust shop had to make up a new centre pipe and due to lack of space the muffler hangs down fairly low and I've already had speed hump issues. Not sure what else I can do without going to another exhaust shop and seeing if they can sort something else out.

Here is the muffler http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290418974464?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I recently did an exhaust upgrade, from end to end and it was a risky experiment, but to stay on topic here, I started with an xForce CAT back 3-inch but retaining my HiTech dual tip mufflers on each side at the rear. Noise was harsh and loud at 92 dba, and not legal for the street, let alone the wife and neighbours!

So, first change was the front muffler, in the center section just behind the 3rd CAT. Went from this:

to this:

This is a Magnaflow 18x9x4 Oval with offset and allowed the fabricator to keep it tucked up into the original space. On that change alone, came back into the legal range at 87 dba. Was still too loud for me, but I wanted the flow.

The next change was to get rid of the HiTech dual tip mufflers. They were good for creating sound on a stock system, but doing what I wanted with a high flow system. Plus, with the higher exit gas temperatures due to the higher flow, I found the dual tip mufflers were melting the rear bar. The tips were now very close to touching the rear bar (poor xForce Y pipe alignment) and would touch and melt on WOT.

So, I grabbed the stock rear mufflers from the garage and put them back on. Sure it was quiet, but also restrictive and the raspiness was awful. I was like tin cans rattling in the rear every time I did a pull.

Then next change was to gut the stock rears and rebuild them as 2.5-inch straight thru with stainless steel and fibre glass packing. I was also able to have the alignment brought back into spec to match the xForce Y section that is retained on the car. They look like this:

These brought the sound pressure level into a nice place for me at 77 dba max on cold start, dropping to 60 dba at warm idle (nothing to see here officer!). On WOT, I reckon the level rises again to high 70's. Great for the family and neighbours, but with the high flow necessary to achieve the other developments. :D

If you want to see the full details, you can read it in my build thread, Project Veloci, starting at page 50:

Not saying that what I have outlined here and in my build thread is the ideal for a 3.0R, but it is for my build. :D

My exhaust has just been done (raptor headers, cats, xforce center and y pipe and TCP auto mufflers) to be honest I liked the sound until I touched the accelerater then all of a sudden bbbuuuuuuurrrrrrrr!!!!! when I took it to Matt (KiDo Tune) he completely changed the sound of the exhaust (has to do with airflow or something) and now it sounds fantastic!! my advice would be to message him and ask if one of his tunes could help! good luck :)

So in the end, I have taken the TCP mufflers on, and put some STI ones on. There is now no drone at all. There is also not much of a boxer throbbing noise. Really depends what you are after from your exhaust.
