HKS Silent Hi Power vs ES Premium

Postby AndrewCowley » Sat Oct 22, 2011 5:45 pm

I am after mufflers only for my 04 GT with a Phat dump pipe. Anyone care to compare these two mufflers from HKS? I can see a fair few topics / posts about them but can't find a comparison. Any idea what the difference is? I want to replace the raspy sound of my STi quads with something a bit more meaty / throaty.

I know 04GTLIB just fitted some Silent Hi powers along with a Phat dump.

Don't have the dump fitted yet Mark, but the Hi Powers are on and they sound great.
Once I do have the dump fitted I will post up a video link so people can have a listen to the system.

Cheers,
Rusty.

Yeah, yeah..... Bloody impatient southerners....

On holidays next week mate, so I will chase it up then.

Andrew, I'm not sure how the ES Premiums will sound but the Hi Powers sound is definitely more aggresive than the STI quads, but without being obnoxious or loud as if you know what I mean.

Cheers,
Rusty.

FWIW - I have the HKS Legamax that I bought from Mark on my car with a Phat DP and stock centre pipe (not yet tuned). The Legamax are a few negligible decibels quieter than the HKS Silent Hi Power I think, but I agree with Russell - the sound is more aggressive but not obnoxious. And at idle and cruising you hardly notice it at all. There is a video in my member profile.

The OMGmobile has a Phat DP with HKS 3" Centre Pipe & ES Premium Mufflers. Also VF52 + Pulse tune.
YEP, certainly miles in front of the OEM quads! Even better when run-in. Not loud like some Rex's, until I stand on it under a concrete bridge/tunnel. :D :D
The noise inside, with the CP, the women of the house tell me is loud. I rarely use the Macintosh, prefering the real sound system.

Would I do it again, YEP :!:
Probably would ceramic coat, or something, the CP to keep the handbrake and daughters quiet.

That'd be great Matt... I'm thinking of getting a centre pipe so would be good to hear what a TBE on the 2.0LT sounds like. Any drone cruising?

Been keeping an eye on that Taylor... saw your video too - certainly sounds nice and aggressive. Would be interested to hear Hobba's because my mufflers are HKS as well - a different model but would be good to compare.
