New TCP Exhaust

Postby Mikey » Tue Oct 18, 2011 10:33 pm

Hey guys, just fitted my new TCP turbo back system on my 07 Liberty GT B Tuned By STi. I Love it, fitted really well, just had to adjust some of the hangers and thats about it. We modded the turbo heat shield but soon I might buy a new Perrin one or something the same. It fitted up really well, about an hour to remove the old system cause of the bloody heat shields then about an hour to fit the new exhaust and a bit of stuffing around with the heat shields. Here is some photos and I've got no problems in saying that this exhaust is great. It has a really great sound, not too loud but a really nice bark when your up in the revs. No droning and with the windows up its really great sound and not too loud. Currently the car is running a bit rich but give it time and it'll settle down and reprogram itself. Next step is to fit my SPT cold air intake and prob get a larger top mount and then get a tune. Anyway, here is the photos.

Love the sound!!! When changing gears it sound awesome and pops and crackles. And the power now is great too, I used to have a fair bit of lag in 2nd and 3rd but its been reduced to almost nothing and it should be a lot better at I get it tuned

I'm thinking it will take a new tune to get it running right.
I've had mine (same exhaust) on for about 6 weeks now and it's running richer than ever now. Plenty of pop and crackle and not the best idle.
Hopefully I'll get myself organised and get a tune soonish.

I agree that the sound is pretty darn nice although I haven't been able to get hold of a camera with a good enough microphone to get a good video.

changing the DP will make it run rich until you get a tune.

Although you get the nice crackle of the excess fuel burning up in the exhaust :D

ha yeah I love the sound but depends on the fuel usage. ha ha my fuel usage will be to shit cause I love driving it harder cause of the sound anyway ha ha. Yeah want to get a tune but want to wait till I get a few more mods before doing it otherwise i'll have to get it tuned again.

Man that hoist would have been great when I did mine. Rolling around on the concrete under mine up on stands wasn't the most pleasant time.
Getting the old dump of the turbo was a bit of a bitch too.

I was thinking about aftermarket heat shields too. Cobb tuning has one as well - http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=2440

Cool, I'll have to look into the cobb stuff. Ha yeah my mate has his own w/shop, he allowed me to use his shop and also his mechanic to help out as well, wasnt able to use my work hoist cause the bosses wouldn't let me during the day. The heat shield was a turd of a thing but i finally got it. I was always burning my hand on the water tanks.

I have got the TCP exhaust. When it got fitted, it had the ECU flashed to take into account the new exhaust.
The car feels physically quite a bit quicker, with more low down torque. It's rather noisy on startup, but then quietens down when warmer at idle.

Why are you using the hoist arms on the sils and not the chassis rails?

Your front right and left lower control arm rear bushes are f*cked. Whiteline kit or phat or oem, with the whiteline GR STI control arm brace plate will stop them falling apart whatever you put in.

What brake pads are in the front? That is the dustiest brembo pads I have ever seen...

Exhaust looks great though, nice work.

The hoist arms on the sills are the correct jacking points for them so I did it this way mate. Got the brake pads that came with the car from stock and the bushes look fine mate, had it up on the hoist a few time and they look the way they are suppose to for only 50000kms.

Don't even bother, just buy the PHAT lower control arm bushes now.

To this day it's in my top 2 mods I have done.
1. Being Phat DP, 2 being the bushes.
Just change them. It's only like $300 if you take the control arms out yourself and get someone to press out the bushes for like $40.
