Twin 2.25 inch after the dump..????

Postby jslayz » Wed Oct 05, 2011 2:13 am

Hi chaps,

Soon I will be doing intercooler, turbo and exhaust.

Just a thought, I would like my lib to sound unique and am wondering if going a full twin 2.25inch from after the dump n 100cell cat would be ok?
I'm looking full custom mandrel bent stainless system by prestige exhausts in malaga with SMB mufflers too.

Has this been done?

Any thoughts on doing this, quiet, noisy etc?
Suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the info!

Id probably go 2" if your going twin.

The noise level will be governed by the choice of mufflers you use and to a lesser extent the piping size. 2" with a centre resonator in both and some decent mufflers and it shouldnt be too loud.

What turbo are you changing to on an '05?

Hi Mark

Twin 2 inch, ok, I do not want it to sound like a tractor......

ive been doing some investigating on turbos and I may just end up going the MRT single ballbearing turbo kit minus the exhaust.
That seems to produce good torque and hold it over the rev range and is a proven option.

I don't think those ones from ProSpeed, CBRD are ballbearing yet ?

My car is auto so I'm cautious about this. I want response and more torque/powa.

I'm open to suggestions

How much is that kit and is the MRT turbo a bolt-on? There are bolt-on options for our cars that are cost effective and can produce some significant gains. How much of an increase have they advertised?

He has an '05 GT Jerome which means 2.0L twin scroll, not the same as yours. :P

Not a lot of bolt on options for the twin scroll. Thats why I asked what turbo was intended to be fitted. MAKE sure any quotes that that say "bolt on" are that with no extras.

If you want more response/torque/power, do the intake exhaust and tune and that will give you all of those.

Just depends what level of torque/power your after.

I spoke to MRT today, for new intercooler, roller bearing turbo, 2 to 1 collector uppipe, gaskets = $4200
Allegedly it's a new turbo configuration that is 5kw less total power but much faster spool up.

I have to get maximum motorsport to investigate other options I think.

I also plan to speak with Prospeed about appropriate bolt on CBRD turbo too.

Perhaps I should do a higher compression AMS or Cosworth 2.5L short motor to start with?

I really want more down low.....

Anyway whichever way I go, 2.25 inch twin system will be ok for both yeah?

I was looking at the vf36 for my 05GT, was also looking at the 20G, both would be fine for a bolt on from what I have read about them. (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Is yours already twinscroll? If so, its not bolt on. No bolt-on turbos for twinscroll, Need new headers, uppipe and downpipe to make it bolt on :)

Why would I need new headers, up pipe and down pipe if I already have a twin scroll and am only upgrading to a bigger twin scroll? *confused face*

because the legacy twinscroll headers are smaller than vf36 ones and up pipe has a different turbo flange on it. you could leave your stock headers there and get a custom up pipe made up, you would need flange from vf36 up pipe to suit. Also downpipe flange is different hence why you need new downpipe.

No point in switching to a larger turbo if you going to use smaller diamter pipe work leading up to it

I already have a Twin scrool HKS dump pipe, would that be alright? custom uppipe is easy on the $$$ so no biggie there, and have already sussed fuel pump and injectors.

If its a downpipe for stock turbo, you will need to change the flange on it to mate with vf36

so the proven MRT kit sounds like the way to go then?
Just get exhaust after installing, then get tune.
I wonder if Tony at ProSpeed can get me something from CBRD that is close to a bolt on....

Will update when have gone further.
