Resonator removal??

Postby ZEAL26 » Tue Jun 14, 2011 6:49 pm

Hey everyone,

has any one removed their resonator? also known as a "resonator delete"...

thinking about removing it as it apparently sounds just like a cat back exhaust system without the hefty price tag.

Ive heard that their is a resonator in the intake as well as the exhaust?

if anyone has done it or heard about let me know what you guys think about it...

Thanks! :)

Nobody's ever done it.

I kid, I kid.

The search function works well.

Like the above post says, search function works well.

However, in case you miraculously don't find your answers there; i doubt it will give you a cat back exhaust system sound. I have a catback exhausted and it only minutely changed my exhaust tone after removing it. You'll here a lot more air intake noise up high, but won't notice it soo much below about 3000-3500rpm.

It's not hard to do, at all, give it a shot.

*EDIT* Silly me, you were referring mostly to the exhaust resonator. Above applies for the intake resonator. *EDIT*

There is a link posted above about the resonator removal and there are pllleeenty of other threads around about it (unless they've done a clean-up)...

Intake resonator can be removed and put back in for sure, so long as you're a bit careful on removal and don't rip any of the plastic (i got a little frustrated when i did mine!... :angry2:). It's easy though, just the pop-rivets that hold it in place are pretty good at their job! :P

Wouldn't have a clue about the automatic, although there has been mention of the air intake resonator removal still sounding quite good in automatics. Give it a shot when you're bored on the weekend, nothing to lose! Like you say, it's not permanent, and you might like the sound! It's literally a 10minute job...Even for the n00b! :P

Cheers nottage really helpful!

will do it soon, one last question, what will replace the resonator? for example once the resonator has been taken out its going to leave a hole where it was in the air intake...

dont no if that makes sense
