Did you like what I did with the title?

No?
:?

OK to help me out here (with my noobness) I want to ask a few questions:

- Wtf is a hotdog? (in exhaust terms)
- What is my stock exhaust made up of? (2007 Liberty STi Auto Sedan)
- If you change the various parts of the exhaust, i.e. dump pipe, centre pipe etc. but keep the STi mufflers does noise change much?

Thanks :)

Rome

Haha so what's the regular GT exhaust system made up of?

And I don't want noise change, I'm not a fan of a loud exhaust :) I was hoping it would keep relatively quiet!

Hotdog or resonators are used in place of tradition mufflers to help keep the volume down. Resonators use packing mesh to muffle the sound not baffles like mufflers so they a more slimline and can easily added without effecting the flow.

According to Subaru your exhaust system is made of stainless ( a very low grade)

Dump pipe will improve low down response and eliminate the hesitation, especially with the auto
High flow muffler like the Phat cans will provide better flow and add a little volume to the system.
The centre pipe is the icing on the cake, you can expect an increase in sound but the best part is great throttle response throughout the rev range.

MY tb sti was first fitted with a Phat dump for a few months, then the phat cans were fitted, it sounded a little deeper then stock, but not loud.

I then added a phat 3" centre pipe with 2 resonators (hotdogs)……the response was wicked and the sound turned a lot of heads with a very deep boxer burble.

But since I conduct long and boring work telecon meetings in my car whilst travelling, the sound when cruising on the motor way was a little too loud, so I had to part ways with the phat centre pipe and cans, in its place I got a K2 cat back.

BTW nice to meet you on Saturday……….

Great meeting you too Tony! Thanks for the info :)

Well im getting the dump pipe installed soon so pretty excited!

I am almost 100% determined to keep the sti mufflers cos I like them so not sure what else I'll do other than the dump :)

Like Tony said you'll see huge improvement in exhaust flow and throttle response by changing centre pipe from very restrictive oem to a 3" aftermarket one...

and while you're there if you really want to keep the sti muffs like I did, you can gutt the sti mufflers, replace all that twisty restrictive internal piping with some straight through goodness, still fairly quiet but very much improved flow.

there's a link to cpitts original gutting job on gt muffs

and my "235 reborn" thread, where I gutted my sti cans
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9232&start=30

there's also a sound thread in the muffler section...

check these out and see what you think

cheers
Laurie

PS: Love that hairy hot dog, Segr......lol
