Postby Brad88 » Mon Apr 04, 2011 7:13 pm

im getting a set of extractors made up for my 2007 3.0r specB very soon and i was just wondering what cats i should get, 200cell or 100 cell

if i get 200's will i still need to get the cel codes removed?

and if i have to get the cel codes removed for 200 cells i may as well go to 100 cell i think

Brad

Which shop have you been going to for the idea of building your system. Let me know as we may need a few sets built at once however there are only 2 shops I would entrust to such an idea

You would go 200 cell if you are staying NA

Looking forward to your reply on this one

Make sure theyre made right. You would struggle to better than OEM 3.0R manifolds without a proper system for a specific rev band. The oem ones do a very good job of a good spread of power, probably better than any aftermarket ez30r header could ever dream to achieve. That k2 gear stuff is utter shit for instance.

Find a bloke who knows his shit, download your rom and check your advance and lift tables. If you're going for outright power above 4000rpm you'd be looking at a 1 3/4 primary pipes about 55 inches long from what I remember working out for a maximum power at 6200 rpm. The loss would be low down. At that length you're going to have a hell of a time passing cold emissions and shit as the cats would be so far back. If you ran catless (I have no moral quandary with this at all, go for gold I say, subaru cats are heaps of shit). 3 into 1 and perfectly equal. The further out of equal length they are the longer they need to be to compensate. Any longer than 60 inches results in losing low down power more and more. 3:1 2" secondaries and 2:1 2.5" end should work fine.

Like I said, stock pipes do an excellent job, they are near perfect for all around performance and a quiet exhast without raspy overrun and shit. Keep the stock header design and put in some high flow 2.5in 100cel cats (Genie make excellent off the shelf versions that shouldnt throw CEL's according to heresay and fairy whispers).

Keep a small resonator in the centre, it sounds like a cross between a porka GT3 with a throat infection, and a hive of angry bees if you have no centre resonator of any sort.

I'd love to know the specs on ez36r cams to know what can be done for exhaust AVCS. There would be some funky shit going on to make them right I imagine.

What I was thinking is 1 5/8 primaries about 12" long and 2" secondaries, with 200cell cats,

I dont think you'll gain a single thing. Maybe 3-5 horsepower at a specific rpm. Replace the cats with high quality 100cel units and knock the rest of the system up neat and smooth.

OMG a local muffler shop is going to make a set of headers PMSL for what gain???for what purpose You would get better performance from only filling the petrol tank 1/2 way

kiks is on the money in this statement You would struggle to better than OEM 3.0R manifolds without a proper system for a specific rev band. The oem ones do a very good job of a good spread of power, probably better than any aftermarket ez30r header could ever dream to achieve.

Save you money and buy some nice mats and stickers

Good headers would be awesome, with the right cams. Just ditch the cats all together and wipe the CEL with romraider. Most power per dollar on a 3.0RB you'll do.

most dollars fined per mod if the EPA catch it too...

On a serious note
how many CPI are the stock 3.0RB cats?

I'll be going to 2 x 200cpi cats in the stock headers when mine are done
and ditching the 3rd cat all together for a standard y-pipe 2-1 collector

Ditching the centre will make your car a getaway vehicle from a thousand tins of angry bees always on your tail.
Keep it or a resonator.
