AVO Dump pipe and catalytic converter

Postby alphapudgen » Sun Mar 27, 2011 5:37 pm

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone has had experience connecting an AVO Legacy GT BP/BL MT Hi-Flow Down Pipe with Metal Cat to a catback exhaust system.

I have just purchased a HKS silent power for my 07 Liberty GT Spec B and was wondering if it would fit it.

The part says from 04 models up but I thought before 07 it was the 2.0GT engine and the dump configuration was different, but the AVO Down pipe says it will fit 04-09?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a feeling that there is a difference in design between the Legacy and the Liberty to do with the steering knuckle being on the wrong side. The pre and post facelift Gen IV are different on the Lib and aren't interchangeable. Contact Phat GT at forumparts@gmail.com re his dump pipe which a lot of forum members have fitted.

If you're an avid AVO fan, contact AVO in Australia at http://www.avoturbo.com/avoshop/. They should have an Australian version of their dump pipe, although every single thing I've ever got from them required some sort of modification or another to fit.

But Phat GT's dump pipe is the way to go as Moggy suggested. Much prettier than that ugly cast iron business from AVO.

Does Phats pipe include a catalytic converter or not?

I have the AVO downpipe for the auto 2.0GT, as pictured here:

Stainless steel with the metal cat, seems to work fine however I haven't compared with another one. I don't think there was any modification required to fit, however they did the install so who knows :P

Why wouldn't it? It's illegal to have a dump pipe without one. It's not a HiTech dump pipe you know.

Don;t you just need to have the correct number of CATS
or enough capacity to get the emissions under control

i.e removing 2x 400cell cats and replacing with 2x 200cell cats in the same locations will have a huge effect on the actual emissions out the rear end

True. Phat's dump pipe uses a single performance hi-flow cat that's been tested and passes emissions. Other non-JDM brands tend to skip the cat for maximum flow and/or wanting to save on costs.
