So how much louder and how much more power (if at all) would result from changing the centre Y-pipe?

What size diameter would you move up to? And is there a hotdog or mini muffler on the new pipe?

I can't speak for your setup because don't you have the STi mufflers? Anyway, even with a hot dog and a mini-muffler, the exhaust was pretty darn loud for me when I ran the straight through Phat quads. To the point where it was just unbearable and I had to swap back to the K2 Gear centre pipe after 3 weeks. Acceleration and response was excellent! But when my kids became scared to ride in my car because of the noise, I knew it was time to give it up. My ideal pipe size for the centre would be 2.5" as a compromise for noise and performance.

What diameter is the stock centre pipe?

IIRC it's 2.5" (it might be smaller) and as Jim has said going to 3" with performance muffs results in a big increase in noise. After I had my Phat Quads fitted I contemplated going the 3" route but after riding in another members car with that setup I decided against it. Funny enough after riding in my car the said member promptly reverted back to the stock centre pipe and sold his 3" pipe, just retaining the Phat muffs. At the end of the day it comes down to personal preference.

but the difference in throttle response is the best part and main reason why i still have mine fitted. I did run the phat dump and muffs and noticed a big difference when the centre pipe was finally fitted

btw mine is 3' inch with 2 15 ' hot dogs with 2.5' at the y joint....also known as Arith's old one...............
