NewbieGT you are clearly not reading or understanding what I am trying to achieve, so please desist with any further input.

For those who have or know about the PHAT dump pipe this sounds like it could be my best option. I still can't picture how the reduction is achieved though as I don't want to have to modify the mid-pipe as I think mynameisdaniel is suggesting. I might try and get onto the guy who makes them but interested if anyone has a picture of this bolted up to a stock exhaust or a picture of the flange/sleeve adapter in question.

Cheers,

Do you have a stock mid pipe? If so, the PHAT dump will connect straight up with the INCLUDED flange adaptor which is bolted on. If/When you want to go a custom mid pipe later on, you simply unbolt the little adaptor and connect the new exhaust :|
People have said this a couple of times already, I don't see why you keep asking the question.

Imho, the transition from 3" dump flange to stock cat back is not that bad as the cat back has a smooth radius mouth for the stock donut... :)

I'd just delete the resonator from the stock mid.
It's said to be a setup w/ stock muffs that has a nice rumble...

So id say the main restriction is the stock res :)

As Kieran said. Mine didn't come with a 3" adapter like this image shows (bought second hand), only the 2.5"ish (stock size) one.

Thanks guys, photos tell a thousand words. The adapter shown from 3" to ~2.5" is exactly what I was looking for a smooth transition from aftermarket to stock parts. Benny if the stock exhaust has a smooth radius at the inlet to mid-pipe then it would be an improvement but the step would still create a lot of turbulance and back pressure so personally I would avoid this in my exhaust, especially where exhaust velocity and pressure is so high. This is obviously why PHAT do the downsizer and it is nice that an exhaust manufacturer has actually taken this into consideration rather than assume a full exhaust replacement. Does the one in your photo have the downsizer because the dump side looks to be a reducing pipe but a bit hard to tell.

Based on this info it sounds like the best solution for someone wanting to keep the stock muffs and not hack up their original exhaust is to get the PHAT dump pipe with downsize adapter. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

Mate why are you trying to do half a job? You are going to want this down the track and your tuner would tell you to get full TBE anyway...

Think about it

Newbie seriously mate how do you know what I am going to want down the track? I am not new to modifying cars and although I ask a lot of questions, don't assume I don't know what I am doing.. Anyone can slap on a TBE but my goals are different. Is this ok with you?

Newbie GT needs to apply for his username to be changed to Pro GT or Expert GT.
He obviously knows what he's talking about these days
