TBE Exhaust for my08 GT-B

Postby lunchboxsti » Fri Jan 06, 2012 9:29 pm

I have had my GT-B for 4 years from new now. Straight after i picked it up i started researching a TBE. As i stared to get an idea on what i wanted i had to move house and didnt have the time to get a tune done. so couldnt fit a TBE due to needing a tune for this mod. but i wanted twin tips like the STI mufflers so i brought a set of hitech SS mufflers to chuck on. Since then i have been occupied with work, Kids, motor Bike, etc, etc. things have now seattled down and the bike is gone. im back on the hunt. im going to get a chiptorque ezy flash as im in tassie and its pretty much the only option for me to tune, but dump, and centre and y pipe are all open. it needs to connect to the hitechs (same fitup as stock but bigger diameter) im looking for a all round performer. nothing that drops low down for high up. and vice versa. but id rather keep low down if it comes to the crunch. the car is a auto. it has a slight drone ATM so as long as it dosnt make it worse its fine. i will get a bigger TMI as well.

so looking for everones opinions on what they think will work for this set up. exhaust shops are shit round my are so custom is out. im happy to mix up ie. phat dump with AVO centre and y (as an example providing the would mate up.) have looked at other post and listend to the vids but ever application is different. need the know from those who have fitted different types and know what the dyno said for torque and what changed etc.

Being able to put both o2 sensors in would be good as im not sure wether the ezy flash can correct for only one o2 and stop codes coming up.

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Just fyi, you can run a TBE without a tune no problems. I have been doing so for a few months. Some people for over a year on this forum.

I'm also in the look for a center and dump pipes

I've spoken to Michael (Phat GT) about the dump but he won't be back until 2 weeks time and might be able to make an order (i've got an auto too)

but I've came up with a small list

Dump
Phat GT
AVO

Center to y pipe to stock muffler
X-Force (there's a vender in here that confirm it)
MRT

TCP does sell dump and center but Tony only has the dump in manual which requires some modification (cheap package)

Hope this help

I recently went through the same process and ended up going with the AVO option for the dump pipe due to the quality of the metal cat, stainless pipe and sourced it quite cheaply.

I would also be careful about mixing different manufacturer sections as fit up can get a bit tricky sometimes where the pipes meet internally etc.

Hey mate :), a great set up it a Phat dump with x force center and Y pipe. The x force center pipe has a massive 14" resonator so there is zero drone while cruising and fits the stock system so your mufflers are still a perfect fit.
PM me if you would like some more info on the x force gear as I'm a vendor on here for them and whiteline.

MY friend got a AVO cat back system fitted to his GT-B manual and it started to boost spike to nearly 20 psi. we took it off and it went back to normal. thats why im a little worried. have you got both o2 sensors in. most dumps iv seen only have 1.

Mixing could be a issue but as you mentioned you went with AVO dump for quality. iv fitted a couple of there cat back systems for friends and the fit up was poor and the mufflers are hard to get straight and look bad from behind. i had to heat the hangers to get them straight. where did you source the AVO Dump cheap from?

I'm getting all my bits at the moment from Tuspeed.

AVO stuff was a bit hit and miss in the past but I've been advised they have changed manufacturer of their exhausts and they are now much better. My dump had no issues during install. I did get a tune at time as well. So far I've had no CELs going off.

I've posted pictures in the mods section if you want to have a look at one close up under my profile.

Next I'll be doing the mid section and Y pipe and be using AVO bits. I think they'll cost me $890.

I have the PHAT DP. I'm unsure of how many sensors it has. But I used to run an ECU Data Scanner and my boost never spiked when I was logging.

get a Phat Dump pipe.

other people who make centre and y pipes you may be able to buy seperately are ultrex.

Or you could find the catback i got on ebay and scrap the mufflers which is what i will be doing eventually.

Hi lunchboxsti I have the set up you have in mind with the Phat dump/x-force centre and y-pipe. I also have the TCP twin tips fitted and they weren't a very good fit. I had to get the hangers heated and bent and also the weld on the back of the muffler heated and bent to fit them. I would advise you to source a Japanese made cat-back system such as an HKS or fujitsubo as they fit every time. Mine is also an auto:) My 2 cents worth

Phat dump, X-Force centre with TCP mufflers seems to be the go these days.
