Wanna be Beemer

Sitting in traffic at Caxton Street (Brisbane) the other day and this guy says to his mate "Check it out, he's got a wanna be Beemer", I laughed on the inside thinking he really must think I deaf and replied "Mate, if I *wanted* a Beemer, I'd drive one!" he then muttered to his friend, "what type of car is that anyway" "A Liberty" his mate begrudgingly muttered back.

I laughed about it all the way home (not far), I used to want a m3, but now I'm very glad I got a Lib, Beemers are dime a dozen in Brisbane and the attitude that comes with the territory will never be my style. Liberty FTW!! I'll spend the extra doh on mods and make myself a beemer killer instead.

First I've heard of it mate. Having owned an M5 and been a Bimmer Club for many years, there is a very clear distinction between those that "have" and those that "do not". Those that "do" are simply oblivious to anything else, and those that "don't" make those sorts of comments that you heard.... Oh, and they buy 20 yr old 3 Series just so they can say that they own a Bimmer...

Having just gone through the whole 'what car to be next' conundrum, including bimmers and audi's, I can tell you that the Lib is an excellent car - it's not the best, but it's very good. Thus, I just renewed my lease... Does that make me a BIG wanna be when I came out of an M to get into a Lib and now I'm staying there???

Thats what i find weird, Euro car drivers (BMW, Merc Etc) Think they are king shit :S I personally laugh at them for spending so much money on a car. Cause to me seeing an 85K car on the road is like wow you actually when out and put that into a car you will sell in a few years? When buying a 35K car will do the same job and probably fair better than the 85K. Sentinel im also with you how people go buy a 10+ Year old Beamer, Merc or other Euro trash to say they own that certain car yet they arent worth anything.

Ive gotten to drive a few of the Mercs E 500 etc and they are really really comfy but i can get the samething from a Gen 4 Liberty STI and still look "cooler" cause it has the TBSTI badge on it. To everyone as my witness if i buy a European car any time soon please come kick me in the face

Logic aside, cars just aren't about practicality though. People don't buy a Ferrari because they're fast - you can buy a POS VL Turbo and make it faster than a Ferrari if you spend the same amount of money. People buy it for the image, the prestige, the style.

It's an arse dragger. The interior is horrid in comparison, the A/C rubbish, the engine gutless once you get past the agressive DBW/throttle cam setup, poor grip and less than comfortable seats
