Front tow hook

Postby imprzd » Thu Oct 23, 2014 7:00 pm

Hey guys,

I'm planning on taking my 08 GT.B to one or two track events per year. While running through a mental checklist of stuff I'd need, I realised that there isn't an obvious front tow hook or tow point. There's no caps in the front bumper or anything. There are two hook points under the front lip but they're a fair way back, and I'm willing to bet that if you tried to tow the car with a chain, you'd destroy the front bumper in the process once the chain goes tight.

Has anyone come up with a bracket or some sort of mod to get around this?

Remove drivers side fog light surround and there is a threaded hole behind there.

You'll also find a threaded hook in the boot in the same compartment as your wheel but wrench etc

Doesn't anyone read the owner's manual anymore? ;)

OK so 20 minutes after posting this I did indeed do that thing that is called 'read the instructions' and felt rather stupid. Stupid in the head, in fact.
I thought I'd post some pics in case anyone else has wondered about it.

As zch91 said, the driver's side fog light surround can be pulled out... (best to start by pulling grabbing at the gap around the globe. There are exactly one million clips holding it on, so it needs a bit of creative tugging - don't bother with a screwdriver/leverage approach around the edges)
...then it's just a case of screwing in the tow hook that lives in the foam in the spare wheel.

Too easy.
