Haha when I watched the first vid, I was waiting for the guy to start - I thought he was just beetling along to the start of the course, then the video ended.

I was expecting something like motokhana.

Nope, totally untimed, but you must keep moving.
Sometimes you need a little speed to carry through a slippery bit with momentum, but for most bits slower is safer. :)

Current totals.
Only the best 10 results are used in the end, so I am going to have to start discarding results soon.

How'd you go yesterday Ric? Still leading the championship?

I improved my best ever time by half a second (28.69 to 28.14), and came 6th outright.
http://www.mgcc.com.au/competition/2013 ... l#outright

However, my main competitor came first outright, so he scored 5 points more than me.
That takes me to 119 points, and him to 98 with four events left to run.
However, only the best 10 results count, so I'm going to have to start discarding points soon. I'll have to drop at least 7+7=14 :(

Current totals. The next event is at Calder Raceway on Sep-29, and I expect Graeme Ruby's V8 to catch me up even more...

Keep it up Ric!

How many points up for grab?

20 points per event.
The fastest outright time gets 20 points, second fastest 19 points, and so on for the first 20 competitors.

Calder is a double event, as well as the "Sprint", where fastest lap time counts, there is also a "Regularity", where you try to do a series of laps with minimum variance in lap times.
That's worth another 20 points.
I came 8th outright at that last time, with a total variance of one second. Graeme came 12th, with a variance of 1.55 seconds. ( http://www.mgcc.com.au/competition/2013-comp06.shtml )
There's a lot of luck involved in that event, so I just have to try to be lucky. :)

Well the final results are in, and as expected, I couldn't hold off Graeme in the last couple of events.
The final result was Graeme first and me second. Even though I beat him in the final event, he was too far ahead after the second last one.
Full results are at: http://www.mgcc.com.au/competition/2013-outright.shtml

You can see I was the only competitor to score outright points at all 13 events.
As the result was the best 10 out of 13, I had to discard my three worst results, which were each 7 points, so I gave away 21 in total.

Here I am receiving the "Second Outright" trophy on Saturday night:

On ya Ric!

Edit: What is this award for? It seems he didn't win but it's quite a sizeable trophy!

... and my MGA only just made it.
At the very last event (a grass motorkhana in Geelong), it died after doing my second run at pattern #3.
I never got to do a second run at pattern #4, but my first run was good enough.
There was no spark, and I'm still not sure if I damaged the coil, or if there's a problem in the distributor. Lucky I took it down on the trailer.
It's still on the trailer, waiting for me to get it fixed.

Here's some in-car videos of that last event.
We had two runs at patterns #1 and 2 in the morning, then two runs at patterns #3 and 4 in the afternoon.
You can see the motorkhana patterns here: http://www.mgcc.com.au/competition/patt ... tterns.pdf
(Note: Pattern#1 = "Course A, pattern 1", Pattern#2 = "Course B, pattern 1", Pattern#3 = "Course A, pattern 2", Pattern#4 = "Course B, pattern 2")

Second run at pattern #1 (My first run was rubbish. I was the very first car out, on damp grass, so was sliding everywhere. Forgot to start the GoPro anyway...)

Second run at pattern #2 (see above)

First run at pattern #4 (I never got to do a second run)
(I pull off a reasonably successful handbrake turn at 1:36. :) )

Second run at pattern #3. You see the engine stop moments after I drive out of the finish garage. It wouldn't run again that day.

...

that's Cody Hill. He won the "MG Racing" championship, which is an entirely separate competition.
Those guys only compete at racetracks, competing in races.
Some of our events are timed laps on a racetrack, but you're racing against the clock, not directly against other cars on the track.
I have a "CAMS level 2 speed" licence, which does NOT permit you to compete in races.
I think our competition is harder, you have to be a master of many different types of motorsport, from lap dashes, hillclimbs, motorkhanas, autokhanas, to economy runs and "observed section trials". :)
