Beat an SS Commodore today

Postby PoidaGT » Mon May 28, 2012 9:41 pm

I had a new SS commodore ute pull up beside me on the inside lane at a red light in the city early this morning.

He had a parked car in his lane 150 metres ahead and thought i was going to be easy to overtake

Boy, was he was wrong!

We were neck and neck off from the lights and he couldn't get any ground on me.

His V8 was so loud and was belting out so much noise between the high rise buildings, it sounded awesome.

Needless to say he had to slam on the brakes hard to avoid running into the parked car.

I think he was pretty embarrassed to be beaten by a Liberty Wagon

I know! My car is dying for one. I am trying to be so patient waiting on my FMIC, turbo, injectors etc. to be installed BEFORE I tune it but I don't think I'm going to last because the car isn't running how it should!

By the time I had my tune my car was making 108kw
There was a boost leak, which would be the main factor but running incredibly rich from the exhaust/air filter/TMIC mods was also a factor.

It def runs smoother than stock with the dump upgrade though, even without a tune.
And remember you don't have to pay the full tune price every time you get a tune.

Yeh doesn't surprise me. The main thing I'm worried about is the unnecessary damage to the engine more than anything else, I know it won't be running as smooth as it should it's always been a waiting game for me to get everything bolted on before the tune.

Yeh true, but wouldn't putting a FMIC, turbo, injectors etc. need pretty much a full retune so it would be similar price?

I'm not 100% but I believe retunes are generally at a greatly reduced price. Especially if you are going to the same tuner again. I can't guarantee that though and a full turbo upgrade might be different to just bolting on a bigger intercooler or pod filter or something.
I'm sure there are plenty of peoples around here who have had a number of tunes and could tell you for sure.

 that just proves my point further... H6(just as quick as a stock GT)/GT/GTB/GTBSTI are a bit of a sleeper.
everyone seems to think they are a grandpa spec sedan/wagon then when they see one keeping up they get a confused look on their faces

I highly doubt the GT2 owner would have been driving it properly, that car is sub 4 seconds 0-100 so either he doesn't know how to drive or he doesn't know how to drive!
