Go-kart racing

Postby Rome_BRZ » Fri Feb 03, 2012 9:15 am

Has anyone here done it? Bought their own kart? I'm pretty interested in this there just doesn't seem to be enough information on Australian websites about it which is pretty annoying. Can anyone with experience share with me what kind of options there are and where karts + gear can be purchased from?

My research has produced two results, that membership is needed with the Australian Karting Association? And that there is a North Shore Karting Club which has 1000 members?

I got this plan. It's called 'Save Ass'. And the way it works is this - I slip outta one of these windows and I run like a bastard!

Buy one of those green machines from k-mart and stick a ej20 from a wrx on it.

One of my cousins use to be into all that stuff, He use to get all his stuff from gold kart (Homebush), Kart 1 (Eastern creek) and I think there was on place in Blacktown.

Haha sorry mate lapse of memory lol

Ok so before you begin you really need to go out to a couple of meets as have a chat to people. I've been out of it for a number of years now plus was racing in Qld so I do not know any Vic people.

From there work out what you want to do, race or have a blat at club practice days, this will dictate your budget. If you check out the trading post, aka or local club classifieds there are plenty of karts for sale, I had PCRs but there are plenty to choose from. Next get on the phone and call some engine builders let them know what you are aiming to do an you should get some good advice. Fuel mixes, sprockets for different tracks, tires, pressures etc.

Spares, tools, trailer etc will be the next port of call. Then racing suit, helmets, gloves, boots.

Not wanting to scare you as karting is heaps of fun but like any Motorsport you have to spend money to be competitive. I could write an essay but the basics to get going are as I've written.

If you do get into it I'd e happy to come help out. Let us know

To be fair, mate just gave up on ~50k of 250international because of frustration. Took up F3 instead.
Honda 125 is a huge growIng class that is affordable, cheap and accessible. Check it out.

Tbh if you are keen we worked it out cheaper to run a Gemini for 12mth than the karts. Provided of course you don't do any major damage, same with HQs.
