Bad image for Pirrelli

In the last few races, the Pirrelli tyres have had a massive 'cliff', and that has produced some awesome strategy and racing.

Do you think that this will have a negative impact on the image Pirrelli has in the market? The general public wont recognize that these tires are being developed this way for a reason, but i cant help but feel the public view might work its way towards 'don't buy Pirrelli tires, they don't last very long'.

No.

Unless there is media coverage of issues with consumer tyres, Pirelli can use the buzz of being a racing tyre for their branding and marketing with impunity.

I don't think it would have a bad image for the company. The tires are doing exactly what the governing body of the Formula 1 wanted. Whether you like the way it has change the racing is a personal opinion, but i think all those that watch F1 would understand enough about motoring that it wouldn't have a negative impact on public impressions of road tires.

I've never had a set of hard-wearing pirelli's on a road car anyway.

latest case was my mum's 2002 corolla hatch
$220 a corner,
i had it wheel aligned to save on tyre wear as she does lots of highway trips
and she's in her late 50's so drives at 80km/h everywhere
only got 15,000km out of the front pair and the rears are only about 2mm above the wear indicators.

i'm putting Federals or Kumho's on it this time

I dont think this is the case, just thought id throw it out there...

Pirrelli are amongst the group vying for the V8supercar contract when COTF comes in in 2013. I think others amongst it are Dunlop (Current Supplier), Khumo, Toyo, and Avon

The fact that Pirelli have delivered pretty much exactly what was asked of them for the F1 championship is mentioned in pretty much conversation had about those particular tyres, so no, I don't believe it will reflect badly on their road tyre reputation.

I'm not sure fella's, I think there could be a danger that the wrong message might be received by people if the right marketing isn't carried out.

A similar case was when Pirelli was employed by the world super bike championship several years ago. They where aked to constuct & supply a range of controlled tyres (hard med soft) that would bring the field closer together. It worked, the racing was phenominal but the drop in lap times was significant enough to get some damaging press.
