Victorian Hill Climb Championship at Rob Roy this weekend.

Postby Ric » Wed Feb 23, 2011 1:33 pm

Feb 26 & 27 at Rob Roy.
I'm going to be there all weekend, doing the timing, not competing.
See: http://www.mgcc.com.au/robroy/index.shtml and http://hillclimbvic.com.au/index.html
You can get an idea of the sort of cars competing by looking at the results of Round-1 at http://www.hillclimbvic.com/results/Res ... 1Class.pdf

Hi Rick,

My name is Corey Dunn, I have just signed up to this forum and have a couple of questions about getting involved in Hill Climbs.

I drive a 2008 Liberty GT (sti #81).

Would you mind if I picked your brains a bit?

Thanks heaps for you time Ric!

My wife and I have always been keen motor sport fans, and have an interest in having a go at hill climb, in our mildly modified Liberty. I have no idea where to get started? We're in Sydney (unfortunately), and have grown up around fast cars and thoroughly enjoy tight country roads that go up! I'm not sugesting lap record commitment, we just want to have a bit of fun, and meet some like minded people. Are there race classes that allow street registered non roll cage cars?

Please excuse my ingnorance, i have absolutely no experience at driving cars properly, and I think Hill Climb might be a good outlet as well as a great way to learn how to drive.

Just to assist with a bit of back ground: I do (did) have motor cycle amateur road racing experience for around 10 years. I had a serious crash at Phillip Island in the 2007 east coast road race series, which left me with some mild brain damage and several facial and leg fractures.I tried to ride again but my hearts just not in it. We bought the Liberty (Lucy) to try and ease the pain of my 'retirement', and we both think it's time to learn how to drive her.

Any advise on where we could start, in Sydney, and decent club members that we might like to contact, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your time Ric

Corey

You don't need a roll cage. the only things your car needs are:
  1. A fire extinguisher, securely attached to the car by a metal bracket. This has to be solidly attached, no cable ties. The WRX club make a good bracket which secures to the front mounting bolts of the driver's seat. See: viewtopic.php?p=78934#p78934
  2. A bonnet tie down. This can just be a bit of rope through the latch and tied down to your bumper.
You also need a "Level 2S" CAMS licence, so you need to be a member of a CAMS affiliated car club.
I don't know much about suitable car clubs or hillclimb venues in NSW. Have a look around on this website and you should find them: http://www.hillclimbnsw.com/

No, that track is only licensed for motorcycle use.
The venues used in Victoria are listed at http://www.hillclimbvic.com/The-Venues.html
I'm mainly involved with Rob Roy as I'm a member of the MG Car Club.

As usual, it looks as though you Victorians have your motor sport organised better than us north of the border! I will definitely have to organise some leave around some Vic Champ dates, especially Bryant Park, it looks wild! :o
