The Liberty I just bought is 10 years old and the only noise I get is either from the beefy tread tires I have on or my radio. Could be partly to the fact the windscreen was replaced on purchase.

I only dropped one between the dash and glass, but I had a quick look down the vents while I was recovering it with one of these:

The vent seemed to flatten out quite a bit, rather than go straight down. So you may be able to recover them. But apart from looking down there with the endoscope (and using the hook attachment to recover mine), I haven't looked into detail where the vent goes.
