Ok here are my thought on the Grom.
Ive got the Grom IPD3 with Bluetooth addon. I'm using it with an iPhone 5 although i did have to purchase a lightning to 30 pin adapter.
Phone calls are clear and I am surprised that calls can be made with windows fully open. The mic is located at the top of the A pillar. Calls are managed via steering wheel controls. Next track answers, previous track ends and rejects. Incoming call waiting calls can also be answered and switched using next track, but I am yet to test this. Mute will mute the other person but they can still hear you.
Siri can be invoked by double pressing the RPT button on the HU, and all of Siri's functions are available through Bluetooth. Although I find double pressing RPT sometimes resets the Bluetooth connection.
Tomtom app works very well. Music is automatically muffled whenever instructions or alerts are given. I'd say it would be the same for all nav apps.
Music SQ is on par with CD, although my comparison is not valid as both source files are the same (mp3s @ 320 kbps). But its alot better than radio.
My only gripe is that track info does not display on the HU, but it seems to be working for another forum member viewtopic.php?p=295594#p295594 So I'm not sure if its an issue with the Grom or the iphone 5. I wll have to get my hands on another iphone/ipod to check.
Overall I'm very happy with the Grom and would recommend it to anyone. Installation is fairly simple, and I'd think there would be number of different locations for mic/unit/cable to suit your personal preference.

Can you get confirmation that it will work on a 2004 MY05 mackintosh?

I'd been keen as long as it would work.

I don't think anyone has tried this unit on any models so far so nothing is guaranteed at this stage.

Sorry Mate. I meant that I had already purchased last week before the group buy opened. I only got the Grom IPD3 though, no USB.
I'm surprised there's not more interest. It integrates well and keeps everything looking almost OEM, except for the mic.
I'll write a review when I get home, hopefully it will garner more interest.

Everything else looks the same, except I have the iphone cable running out from the cubby as I have the phone there for navigation.

Keen on the exact setup Don has.

USB / Apple / Android / Bluetooth Box (U2P-SUB08)
Data Cable (SUB08)
iPod / iPhone / iPad 30 Pin Cable (5Ft) (IPD2)
Bluetooth Dongle & Handsfree Microphone (BTD)

Correct?
