One thing i should mention is that db1 recently came across the following website which discusses part of the damper rusting after a year or so and one purchaser managing to break their damper during the install.

http://www.rs25.com/forums/f119/t143335-gimmick-motorsports-hood-dampers-issue.html

In reading this there are also many people that seem to be perfectly happy with the product on various US forums. I still plan on ordering a set but obviously understand if people want me to take their name of the list.

According to their website, all Gimmick Motorsports parts come with a limited lifetime warranty against factory defects.

Here is a DIY with pics,

Feel free to PM me if you want your name removed from the purchase list.

Having read that review I'm a little concerned.

I'm hoping this is not a trend, does anyone know of anyone else who has installed these? Positive or negative review, just to get a broader view of the product before committing

The only person that I know of from this forum is lozza. He's had his fitted for 2 months and is very happy with them.

I have the Gimmick hood dampers on my car. Had them on for about 6 months. Bought from same place, Image Import Racing. Josh is very easy to deal with and postage is quick and very reasonable from the states.

The hood dampers work great. Look oem and are very easy to install. Probably 20 mins work. Just undo 4 bolts, install the hood dampers with the small c-clips and that's about it. Open and shut hood. Have a beer.

They do tend to make my bonnet sit up a few mm when closed. You can hardly notice it and I am just being fussy. They work really well if you work under the bonnet heaps or you want to show off you engine bay.

Good price on the GB, I am pretty sure I paid a lot more. I would definitely get a set if I didn't already have them.

by the way, if you are worried about corrosion, a light application of oil on the exposed shaft regularly should go a long way to preventing it.

I had a look under my bonnet last night at the hood dampers. Yes there is some rust on the small round bolts that attach to the car. I will have to take them off and paint them if rust gets worse. I have had the dampers on for about 6 months.
