Just go pinch one out of the Forester, they come standard on them, at least they did on my MY04 XT.

Filled up tonight and remembered this thread from when it first started and tried the magnetic thing...IT WORKS!

Unlike the photo on the first page, try sticking the screw part of the cap flat against the inside of the flap. It stays there, I couldn't believe it.

Typical Subie, little tricks they engineer and then don't tell us.

i dont know whats magnetic your flap or your cap but neither of mine is, there is nothing in the end of the cap that remotely resembles a magnet

Normally I hang the cap over the flap latch using the plastic string thingy but after reading the post thought I would try the magnetic thing.

Well I know I felt like an idiot trying to get the cap to stick to the flap, nothing magnetic about it.

I’ve got a MY04 but the magnetic thing could be an update to the later models.

On my 2007 2.5i, there is nothing magnetic about the petrol cap either. Maybe it's only on the higher end models.

I dont think its magnetic guys, im pretty sure its got to do with the plastic cord that attatches it. If its in the right position the cap feels like its magnetised to the flap but really its the plastic cord causing this effect.

Ive done scientific studies & numerous tests on the magnetic fuel cap theory & have come to this conclusion
Cheers,

Cant find a point in which it sits. Cant seem to identify any magnets.

Ended up snapping my plasitic stringy thingy.
