Hi guys,

Just throwing it out there, is there anyone interested in a trade of my Racing Logic Coilovers for Bilstein struts from a Spec B? (preferrably not too many km's, and ideally with some nice springs. )

They are about 8,000km's old.

The coilovers would come with 4 pairs of springs so you can choose your spring rate... 2x pairs of 6kg, 1x pair 7kg, 1x pair 8kg. The springs are worth $145 a pair alone.

My missus is getting fed up with the firm ride and wants the coilovers gone! They car handles so well and is great in the 'burbs and in the city, but have to admit when driving on country roads the ride is quite firm and i see her point! And i haven't even got a chance to track them yet!!! Also happy to take Melbournians for a ride if they want to see how well it handles before trading...

Let me know if there is any interest, and i'm open to suggestions.... (Even suggestions on how to convince girlfriend to let me keep them!)


EDIT: forgot to mention, i'm after Sedan struts/springs, i believe wagon springs are longer/firmer or whatever....

I have a sedan MY07 GTB with Billys and Kings, but I don't know if my car could be off the road while we swap parts.

You just gotta gaffa tape her boobs so she doesn't get concussion.

Yeah it would be much easier if you were in Melbourne.... But I still have stock shocks sitting in the shed that are REALLY worn out (110,000km's+) i could put those in so i can drive around until you receive the coilovers and can swap struts and post billies back to me... might be too much fuss though. Let's see if there are any interested Melbournians...

How many km's have the struts done, or were you just joking...

I'd swap, but I warn you that the ride isn't smooth. I think the Teins are one of the harder springs on the market for the libs. I'd assume they're better than your coilovers, but they're definitely not what you call smooth. Although paired with bilsteins I heard they're quite good.

Are you running the softest settings on your coilovers?

I've travelled about 10-15000km.

I wouldn't mind swapping, I want coilovers just for aesthetic purposes, but I definitely wouldn't want to go too much harder than what my springs are at the moment.

Just to let you u know both my bills and kings have done about 35k

Yeah i've read the Teins are pretty good with Billies too, but never been in a car with the,. My previous set-up was stock shocks and k-mac springs and the missus never complained about that. I live in the country and drive to work in Burwood, but also work 1 or 2 days a week in the city. The ride is fine in the city and the suburbs, and the highway, and if i didn't live in Healesville i swear she wouldn't notice the hard ride! We have some typically shit roads around Healesville.

I am running them on setting 15 in the Frint and 10 in the Rear (out of 32). I think there is a misconception that you can turn coilovers from "soft" to "hard". You can simply adjust the "damping". Damping controls the speed and resistance of the vehicles suspension travel, so i find that on the rougher back-roads i need the damping turned up higher to cope with the extra force the struts are under.

Maybe on the weekend we need to catch up for a test-ride in each car to see what it's like . I'll PM you.

But that would effectively control your soft/hard, because you're creating more resistance to the shock compressing?

I just leave mine on near softest, cos I drive mine daily I notice my car doesn't bounce on freeways like stock Camrys do.
and in my case, the coiloverse are softer than stock shocks with lowered springs.

Totally agree Clarence. I find when on the freeway the softer the better, but on bumpy country roads if they are set on too 'soft' the ride is actually worse than with some damping set higher... The RL coilovers are quite comfortable on the freeway.

Can sort out courier each way (can go without my car for afew days so i can send bilsteins first)

More compression damping would reduce the chance of bottoming out on rough roads, yes. Combined with stiffer rebound damping (which is what happens with single adjustment dampers when you increase the damping - both compression and rebound are increased) however, you also run the risk of the damper packing down and then bottoming out again.
