If you have a busted off the top nut, Corgiwerks can fix it!

If its knocking, the strut body may be repacked with grease iirc.

If its leaking or no longer damped, best off with a replacement...

There are other options as well...

Yep, it's the top nut. Will get in touch with Corgiwerx - sounds like a much cheaper and easier fix than trying to find another strut in decent condition.

Thanks for the advice!

Yes, I suspect that's probably true, though I've not been able to remove the strut from the car yet for various reasons. I'm still considering the repair (which actually seems to be the cheapest option, even factoring in interstate shipping), but a replacement may be easier for me in my situation.

Having said that, I don't know how likely it is that I'll find a replacement locally, so you will probably be hearing from me again fairly soon :)

That's right. Seems I won't be needing a replacement any more.

Thanks for the advice benny (I'll keep that link in mind for future reference) - and for the tip on CorgiWerx. :good:

Thanks again BillyCorgi!

As can be seen above, I'm one very satisfied customer and glad that I'll be back on the road shortly (as soon as I'm done reinstalling the strut).

Just a question on that:

The service manual (https://legacyiv.weebly.com/) states that new lock nuts should be used when reassembling the strut and reinstalling it in the car. How important is this?
It seems that there are six lock nuts in total - the top nut on the end of the strut (i.e. the one that fits onto the repaired end pictured above), the two nuts securing the bottom of the strut to the steering knuckle, and the three nuts securing the top of the strut mount to the car body. Should I be looking to replace any of these in particular with new ones, or is it generally OK to reuse the old ones?

Thanks again to both of you for the help with this.

Most of the nuts are "clinched" with a deformation to grip into the thread.
The nuts usually are good for another go.
