WTB: 2001-2002 Legacy GT-B E-Tune II, MANUAL.

Postby dan_haz » Sat Apr 29, 2017 6:37 pm

Hi all,

Been looking for one of these bad boys in manual for so long but only autos ever pop up. So frustrating!

Preferably after a Rev D but would consider A-C if it's clean enough.

If anyone has one or knows of one for sale I'd love a heads up. Cheers!

ps I'm in Sydney but will travel.

Even in Japan there were very few manuals sold. The popular option is to swap out the standard engine/trans with one from an early GD STi which will give you a six speed trans and single turbo STi engine.

Well that would explain why they're rare as hens teeth over here. Well, coupled with the fact that they can only be personally imported that is.

Yeah I've heard of that conversion being done, and have noticed a few B4's getting around with that setup too.

I'd be totally fine owning one that had had it done but I'm not sure I could afford to do it myself (or more specifically, pay a workshop to do it haha).

Good ones are rare anywhere, even in Japan. There is a very tidy one for sale by a member here.

It's one of the tidiest examples I've seen both here and in Japan. Mark, the owner, is fastidious about his cars and I've never seen anything but top quality work from him. He's well know on here and you won't find a cleaner ETune anywhere.

FYI that car cannot be registered in NSW.

I was looking at buying it but had to back out because of the rebuilt VIN. Such a shame as it is easily the cleanest Gen 3 I've seen.

Yeah I saw that one that Mark has for sale. It's by far the nicest one I've seen. Absolutely stunning vehicle.

I thought to myself, if it was manual I'd be on a flight tomorrow with a fist full of cash for him haha.

Not familiar with what a rebuilt VIN is. Does that mean it has previously been written off or something?

You'd have to confirm with Mark about the rebuilt VIN thing Cliffo mentioned but Personal Import VINs are issued by the Dept of Infrastructure and are usually good in all states. It might just be a case of having it re-complied in NSW as compliance is a state thing. It cost me $2k to comply my BP Legacy here in QLD two months ago which included 12 months rego/CTP so I imagine NSW would be around the same.

Yeah to get it registered I'd have to get a blue slip which I assume is similar to a roadworthy in other states.

I've done in before. Bought an R32 Golf from Perth and it wasn't a problem.

Just read that article on the rebuilt VINs tho. That's some scary stuff. You'd be devastated if you bought a gem like that and couldn't register it.

There was a guy in Beridale NSW doing that with Mercs. He'd bring in full cars as parts then swap over vins from local cars. He got caught pretty early on in the piece and is the reason you can only import half cuts and not full cars as parts.
