Does anyone have these items left over from a more significant upgrade?

If you'd like to get rid of them from the shed, I'll gladly take them off your hand for a small fee.

I only need 1 lot of em, but would prefer the TunedBySTi if possible

Car is a MY07 Lib GT Spec B.

i think the exhaust (cat back) is the same in the GT specB as the STI except the muffler tips..

correct me if im wrong..

The mufflers on the TB STi are Hi-Tech units from what I've been advised.

Apparantly, the testing day involved an Lib GT Spec B, a whole range of Hi-Tech mufflers, Vin @ Docklands STi and quite a few revs.

Choice was pretty much made based on sound, not airflow.

EDIT: Also, the STI cans arn't hi-techs. Maybe they used the testing day to test their own mufflers which a few of the members on this forum use.

so what your saying is that the tb mufflers on the jdm legacy sti are all from hitech.

Whoa, where did you get your intel on that one? STi have their own branded mufflers from Subaru, and wouldn't have the need for aftermarket units. Especially ones made domestically (Hi-Tech is a local company in Darlinghurst, Sydney and the mufflers are manufacturered in Bathhurst).

Perhaps it was just an independent test you were told about where STi Docklands were conducting their own test on which muffler was more suitable? [EDIT -> Opps, Resonate already mentioned that]

Am aware that STi have their own JP branded gear (the Genomes and similar). The comment is as a result of a comment made by 'inside sources' in the Vic WRX Club that work very closely with Subaru and also spend a lot of time with Vin.

It may have been a personal test done by the guys at STi to find a "good" local solution during the testing phase of the MY07 Tuned by STi (the guinea pig version). The important thing for you guys to remember is that the 'Tuned by STi' is a local delivered and modded vehicle (bar ECU flashing, but that may be different now). Given that, the cans could be locally fitted and supplied to keep the costs down.

Again, not 100% on the original report as it's not first hand (ie: Vin didn't tell me) but it was from very trusted source with direct access to the build process of the original 'Tuned by' products.

I believe that STI Docklands has some type of agreement with Hitech and they sell Hitechs products sometimes as options to customers under the banner of "Tuned by STI Australia". They have done a similar thing with Foresters, WRXs, and STIs in the past.

But the STI mufflers that come on the Liberty GTB Tuned by STI are definitely from japan and manufactured by STI, or whoever makes mufflers for STI, not Hitech in Australia.

Mufflers on GTB and STI are the same except for tips as someone on this forum has cut them open
Can guarantee Hi Techs are not same as STI mufflers, sound is totally diferent, got the Hitechs and more rumble than either stock GTB or STi

I'm sure we're all already aware of that fact. But as mentioned previously, the sti quad tips on the tb sti vehicles are from subaru japan and not from hitech. I have a set on my car.

That would explain the exercise I heard of.

In which case scrap my comments re the cans on the 06/07's being HiTech, clearly the message was a bit mixed but pretty damn close.

Are you planning to do a bit of experimenting? Because you said you could settle for the Spec B mufflers as well, which you have already. Or are you after the Hi-Tech's specifically?

Given I'm doing the experimentation in my own time and it also requires a fair wad of time at a boiler-makers/fabricators getting 'fixed' I can't afford to have the car off the road or being driven round with a dump pipe and nuthin else . Might end up with some underbody flameage issues.

PS: no stress Resonate, isn't the first terse post i've had thrown at me.

Good luck man. I don't envy the noise the car will make with a hallowed out muffler.

While that theory is all and good, and you'll see a quicker response at the low end, I think the OEM diameter will act as a bottle neck for gains at the mid to high end, especially since it's a turbo.
