I thought it might be good for someone just wanting a quick fix before selling.
I was hoping for some beer money for it but I wouldn't like to hold back science.

The diff will be most very carefully disassembled so the seals can be measured up for size and ordered, etc.
I am getting a quote from the USA for the Silicone fluid.
So far it is USD $110.00 for 1 US Gallon plus shipping by DHL.

If this is to work, then one to two diffs are required so they can be serviced on an exchange basis.

I have a spare 5mt diff I pulled to bits and cleaned up, I doubt there would be more than 300ml of oil in it.
I was planning to fit it to the wife's RX with the seals removed and just run it as an open, however I may just be tempted to reassemble it with Toyota viscous fan oil as this was apparently done to my 6mt by a trans specialist in Canberra.

Toyota viscous Fan Fluid is only 10,000cSt.
It would make a standard Subaru centre diff act more like an open unit.
It may not transmit much torque with 10,000 cSt fluid.

Viscosity too low for a viscous coupling diff.

This might explain in part why my RB will light the front tyres on a wet road if I get over excited. Not really an issue as they would only do a revolution or two before the cars really starts hauling off the line. You can still feel the drive coming from the rear.

The theory is that the lower viscosity oil will not thicken over time as the OEM oil does, thus preventing the dreaded 'center diff shudder'. I guess that you can't really solve a factory design issue without some form of compromise.

The quote has now been received from the supplier, so the High Viscosity Silicone Fluid will be ordered and will be on its way soon.
With HODMAN's science donor diff, we will also be able to determine the dimensions of the internal seals to be replaced during the rebuild.

Now to get hold of the donor differential from HODMAN to measure up the Quad-Seals and O-Rings!

The Centre Differential Rebuilds Project is now beyond the point of no return.

It'll be awesome if you can pull it off. Many members will be helped out by this cause.
Everything I've read says that 6 speed centre diffs are a sealed un-servicable unit.

I have a standard 5MT unit disassembled in my garage, so these units are able to be pulled apart.
Looking forward to receiving the unit from Hodman so we can see the disassembly process for the viscous 6MT unit.

RX25SE (above) talks about his 6MT unit being serviced with what would have been 10,000cSt Toyota fan clutch fluid. This was done to his 6mt unit by a trans specialist in Canberra?
So, we will hopefully soon see the disassembly process.
