Hi all,

I've been given a 2005 3.0R-B with the 13 speaker McIntosh system. The factory sub is torn most of the way round.

Is anyone selling one? The markings on the back are 090-0258-22 SPB-931-100.

Thanks

Hey mate what did you replace the factory one with? I'm looking to upgrade mine as well due to the surround being torn. It says 35W RMS 4ohm on the back but I don't know what the sensitivity is. I was looking at the Kenwood KFCXW800F which has 78dB sensitivity and 50-150W RMS. Will that work alright or will it be quieter than the stock sub? I want to stick with the stock amp and just replace the sub.

Cheers

I'm still going to replace it when I find some good info on what will work but for the mean time I just lined the edge with duct tape and now it sounds sweet as!! :P

Hi Jaisah,

Did you find the info that you required as I'm also looking to replace my "blown" subwoofer in the same car as yours.

Just as a matter of interest, it has a 13 speaker sound system ..... but I can only count 11 - 4 in front doors, 1 in rear doors (x 2 for both sides) plus the sub = 11.
Where are the other 2 ?

One set is a double cone thingy so that counts for two!

Thanks Nick,

Do you have the "Visaton Speaker Driver - W 200 - 4 Ohm Woofer
Art. No. 9064" speakers that you have linked to ?

Looking at the graphs etc..... I have no idea what they mean ?

Hi Nick,

I ended up going for a Kenwood KFC-XW800F sub (I think) on the advice from my local Alpine Car man - who I have dealt with before.
I will get it next week and install it myself.

He gets a lot of Liberty's in from car yards with stereos to be fixed prior to sale and often uses these.
One of the problems up here (Gold Coast) is the humidity .... he finds over and over again that any speakers with paper cones and foam just don't last at all.
The Kenwood is Carbon-Glass Fiber Honeycome Cone and rubber surround.

He also mentioned that this era of Subaru have heaps of amp/speaker failures and are "a pain" to source any replacements for.
Usually a trip to the wreckers is the only way out .... and only prolongs the inevitable.
He said when they are good ... they are great ... but when they go wrong, not much can be done without completely upgrading the whole car system.

Yep - I bought the one in the link. It was a straight swap over but I had to cut a corflute spacer (old real estate sign) to keep it off the boot lid tension bar thingy. Plug and play. Yeah it is also fivers cone not paper.

I looked at the Kenwood but the 600W power will stress the stock amp output... in that, as far as I understand and I am no expert..... you will have to bump up the bass output balance on the stereo to get it going and keep the sound output in balance.

I've had my 3rb since basically new and despite also being Gold Coast based have had no issues with the sound system at all ..... or electrics generally from our salty humid climate... door lock actuators and one eindow motor excepted.

Recently my A-pillar speakers appear to have rotted out. Will have to get in and swap those too I guess. I saw here somewhere that they are also an off the shelf type replacement.
