Double Din Fascia kit for 07 Spec B

Postby Scooby-Doo » Wed Jan 11, 2012 3:38 pm

Hey all,

As you may of guessed I'm looking for a fascia kit to replace out the sound in my Spec B.

I realise these are rare as hens teeth, so I thought I'd get a qoute for from a car audio joint, the price came in at around $900 just for the kit (I realise it has the Dual zone climate controller also).

Also the guy said you could only get it in a charcoal colour and not the gloss black thats cureently in my car.

I was just wondering if either of these are correct or utter bollocks?

Thanks in advance,
Nick

The double din facia kit from japan(dual ac zone) should only cost you ~$450 delivered. It will come with an aerial adaptor if thats needed. You will also need some cabling to go from Suby harness to your HU - Aerpro make such items. Assuming you have a Mcintoss system , you need to decide if you are going to bypass the Mc amp (under pax seat) and go straight to the speakers (cable A), or connect to it, which will require a HU with RCA outs , (Cable B). I did the first, using a JVC DV6105 (which does have rca outs) and Dave Carter (svxdc on legacygt.com) made one for me. This involved running the cable from HU down the tunnel a bit , down the left side and under the pax seat to the speaker connector - had to remove the pax seat to do this.Dont know what cable B should look like - if you can get the info and a suitable connector, going into the small round multi pin up by the HU would be the easiest, as it would avoid the seat removal. Apparently the correct connector is not easy to find.
Get a HU with the latest of everything - DVD capable, aux in, ipod in, GPS etc. I found I did not need to upgrade the speakers at all with the JVC unit.

Thanks for the reply mate, I had a look on the avoJDM site, the only dual zone kit they had didnt look anything like the one currently in my Lib (the gloss black with the metal surrounds for the AC), the one on the avoJDM site only had like clear plasitc surrounds and a matt black/gunmetal-e look is this the only option?
Any chance you could post a pic of your install, would be a massive help.

Cheers,

There are pics of my install in the 05 Outback here:-
http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... 513p3.html
with quite a bit of discussion on how to do it...Double din dual zone kits are seentially the same - you need either a double din HU, or a single din pocket or something to fill the rest of the hole .

The new 08 gtb double din dual zone facia looks the same functionally (apart from 2 zone ac). Where the face of the Mc was glossy, glassy black, the double din is more flat, but its the same colour as the rest of the dash plastic. The side pieces are std silver, but I dont find it an issue - if these were cheaply available in black, maybe I would get them, but dont care much. Dont have a pic of current set up so far.

Thanks mate, so its similar to the others that ive seen (with the matt black, and clear plastic looking dual zone controls..)

Just a quick question, what is your old radio and fascia doing currently, if nothing would you be willing to part with it????

I think the ac controls have different knobs from originals, but once you dont have them side-by-side, doesnt matter . I sold the old Mcintoss unit a while ago. Sorry.
