B4 with single turbo conversion

I've got a 2001 Liberty RX. It's nice but I'm not too familiar with the Subies having been a Skyline person for many years. I've always been interested in the B4's of the same model but the reviews all complain of that hole in the power between the turbos. I figured lots of people would have done this conversion.

Is anyone selling a car like this? Or do I have to put up with the power hole? I've seen some B4's for $10-13k, and obviously higher as well so I'm curious to know what this would fetch and how common they are.

Cheers.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I had a B4 and preferred the twin over single.. With a good tune and boost you will love it.

With my GT I'm constantly waiting for that second turbo pull.. That never comes.

How I wish they kept the twin setup.

Throwing the spanner back to you...

To be fair, your comparing a modified manual B4 (exhaust, intake and tune) to a Auto (smallest turbo out of the lot) untuned, stock GT.

:D

I'm currently driving around my old B4(now my dad's car) and it is loads of fun.. Skinnier and lighter than my GTB, it loves corners, and the VOD is easy enough to drive around!

Plus a simple ECU edit makes it minimal, and even more fun to drive!

So the ECU edit/chip can fix some of the hole?

What are the options there? Expensive?

A good tune fixes a lot if that hole.. Or the 'vod' as they (forums/MRT) like to call it.

But I preferred the gap..

@hamish, yeah I think you're right.. Time for exhaust / boost to hit the GT :)

Turbo hit is always fun. I remember when I replaced my fuel pump in the Skyline. I didn't realise but it made it so rich down low that lost about 30kw below 3500rpm. Gave a great turbo rush just after that though. When I got it retuned the power came back down low and I even got another 10kw up high but it felt slower due to the loss of the hit.

Anyone know what the tune costs for the B4?

auto + turbo the size of a VF34 = WIN, mid-range monster

modded TT's work well if you're happy to drive around the VoD
anyone that revs them "through" the VoD is giving away lots of acceleration time.
the only time you should go through the VoD is in 1st gear and it's not noticible as the car can't build the boost as fast as the revs rise

go back a gear, get the revs up and USE the airflow you get from the twins on 4500rpm+
otherwise keep it under 4k and use the instant torque the primary provides

to the above post...
how on earth did changing a fuel pump lose you 30KW?
unless the flow from the original pump was that far compromised and the car was TUNED to that compromised flow, that the new fuel pump (that could hold correct rail pressure) was causing it to over-fuel
in that case it should have been re-tuned.

Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like I just need to drive one. I know the Mrs will be happy under 4500rpm as will I for running about, and I'm happy rowing the gears when having fun.

Yes the car was tuned to the original pumps crappy flow. The replacement pump then over fueled everywhere. Putting the boost up a tad fixed this up high but it just got doughy down low. Fuel consumption went through the floor but as it was $600 to tune I didn't get around to it for ages.
