I have a set of Hi-Techs on my RB that were bought 3 or 4 years ago and at that time you had a choice of duels or cannon style tips.

The welding on mine was not great, especially along the seems at the ends but I wasn't worried too much as I painted the mufflers black so it was less apparant. Fit was fine no need to fiddle with them to make them straight and they are not loud in my opinion.

They may have cleaned up their act on the welding by now and it seems the price has dropped as I paid $1200 for them. As for GT/RB compatability the two are the same at that end of system.

Pros
* Looks & sounds good: people after the quad exhaust look should be satisfied with the stainless steel slant cut tips. The exhaust produces a very nice note, especially on the 2.5 GT if you're after the WRX burble. I did not experience any internal cabin drone when these were on the car.
* Readily available for people who want it now! - since these are produced in Bathurst and they normally have stock, you can get these on the same day instead of weeks if you order from the states or years if you're waiting for Phat.
* For some, the only game in town - Some peopel HiTech and MRT are the only options they have

Cons
* Bumper bar burn: HiTech stated that this issue was fixed but some feedback that I hear is that it's still happening. This is where the tips are touching the inner bumper bar and melts it (happened to me and several others) when it gets hot.
* Not a straight through design: With such a small muffler body, it would be very difficult not to make it loud unless one avoids the straight-through design. This may bother some people who are looking for maximum performance benefits.
* Expensive: The price used to be a ridiculous $1,300 just for mufflers. If you kissed enough ass there or knew the Lambros in some way, the price could go down to $900. With the price reduction recently it's now within reach for people after HiTechs. However there are cheaper alternatives available that are catback as well.

2.5 N/A, 3.0 N/A, 2.0 GT, 2.5 GT = All same same

The only variation is between the sedan and wagon, in which the wagon requires longer tips

There is a magnaflow catback in the trading forum, get onto them. Excellent product for maximum performance gain, but will be marginally on the louder side, as they are a straight through design.

I have the cannon style and have not had any problems with the bumber bar melting, They do protrude out further than OEM and they are a twin skin in design at the tip so heat is not an issue.

Oddly mine are straight through, not sure why, maybe because it was early in the production phase they made them straight throughs. Not noisy at all, at least not on a 3.0R.

Sorry Rob, my feedback was based upon what HiTechs are best known for: their quad tip mufflers. :D

I'm probably going to sell my PHAT Quads in a month or so, after something with the thicker chrome tips like TCP / the ones that Brainy got.

Don't bother PMing me now, but I'm just letting you know they will more than likely be available soon.

I remember that at the time the first batch was cannon style with the duel tips coming out not long after. Back then there was nothing available for the Gen 4 Liberty and Hi-Tech was the first off the shelf product. Dyno showed a increase of 7kw ATW but it's the sound that we really are looking for.

If someone could make a system from the first cat back that sounds M3 like and picks up 10 - 12Kw they would be on a winner.
