[CLOSED] Phat Performance Products - MY07-MY09 Dump Pipes

Postby Arith » Mon Mar 30, 2009 10:28 am

This should be a good week for a lot of forum members. This week Phat starts production on a batch of dump pipes for the MY07-MY09 Libertys. My apologies for the MY04-MY06 folks still waiting for a dump pipe, but the numbers just aren't there yet. So his priorities are on the post face lifted cars at the moment. Thanks to everyone who have waited patiently since late last year.

Special Installation Instructions - http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?p=74556

Features
The mild steel dump pipes have been fitted with a single 5" Euro 4 Spec Spun Stainless Steel Catalytic Converter. The pipes have also been ceramic coated inside and out, which according to XRC15T "Ceramic coating keeps the heat in the pipes for faster exhaust gas, you want the pipes to retain heat. It also helps keep heat radiating into engine area. Its better than thermal tape cos it doesn't cause as much corrosion." And yes, there will be an increase in overall noise, but the results are way worth it. As I've stated in the best, next to sway bars the dump pipes are one of the most noticeable modifications you can do to the Liberty.

Interested Buyers
I'm not sure where the list of people who PM'd Phil (MY07GT) lies, but I figured I would simply just start a new thread for people who are after the dump pipes. Phat plans to produce a mixture of 12 dump pipes this week for the auto and manual transmission.

If you're interested, please PM me with your full details like name, location (for pick-up or delivery), model year, sedan or wagon, and whether you have a manual or automatic transmission. I will reply with bank account details as we need $200 to confirm your order.

For those of you already on the list, could you check that your details are correct. If you don't see your transmission type listed, can you please PM me with what it is? Thanks.

Pricing
For those buying just the dump pipes only: $950

For those buying the dump pipes and muffler/centre pipe: $925

For those buying the entire Phat system: $900.

Unfortunately the price has gone up since the last time it was sold due to the higher cost of material. I think Phat may be offering fitting for Sydney folks at his house on Saturdays for $150.

Here's a few pictures from my post a long time ago:

Oh quick technical question, does our turbo have an internal splitter inside and if not why doesn't the dump extend into the turbo?

Huh? Did Mark say something? :P

Quick question eh? LOL! You put you up to asking that? A bit late in the game to be asking. But since I'm not the technical/mechanical expert, you can PM one of the more knowledgeable folks like coyote, Phat, cpitts, or Tangcla. But the quick answer to your questions are 'no', and 'not enough space to extend a tongue or splitter into the turbo because the wastegate will open into it'. For more information you'll want to do a search of the forum as this was all talked about before. :P

NO....to add to Jim’s response.... first off, there is no room; secondly the splitter can cause boost spikes, and finally little to no performance gain

Btw check out the member sections and read what others thought

No its not too late.

Well common sense made me ask this, I have owned a fair few turbo cars and I was doing some research on the effectiveness of dump pipes and I thought the splitter might be built in. I thought the whole idea was to separate the gases to reduce turbulence.

Can cause boost spikes? I have never heard of that before, is that a common thing on the liberty's?

Do you guys have links, I am not saying the dump pipes are bad, I am asking what the reason for a splitter that doesn't press fit in against the turbo like other designs I have seen and why not. A lot of WRX dump pipe designs have the splitter so I wouldn't have thought our turbo would be similar in size inside the housing.
