have always been pretty hands on with my vehicles, even spent 6 months working at a friend's mechanic shop while at uni. If I had the facilities and the time, I'd be doing most of the work on my car myself

Not yet. Sorry man, we didn't have enough time to call someone and the 2.5i's I know were busy until the weekend.

But I don't want a panel filter. The OEM filter will do the job just fine :P

No way at all in my opinion. The difference in back pressure will be relatively small unlikely to have cause any adverse issues with a new tune. Now if you added a dump pipe in place of the stock one, then yes tune would be affected.

I don't know what sort of back pressure your current mufflers are producing but these look like they will produce next to none.

The perforated Y-pipe scenario is a good one!
These should flow quite well given that there's probably nothing else between the exhaust inlet and outlet other than the perforated pipe to diffuse some of the noise.
The smaller outlet pipe diameters will keep the noise under control so all should be reasonable in front of the police. ;)

I find it a little humorous that Phat isn't on here selling them tho. Why's that?

I'd say this at least has a little to do with it

From Page 7 of the Hitech thread

Arith wrote:<snip> I was talking to Phat GT about this over the weekend, and he thinks HiTechs aren't doing themselves any favours by not reducing the price. He reckons he could source the exact same STi style muffler (most likely from the same place that produces his dump pipes) that performs better and for cheaper. However he's not sure how it's going to sound, which is probably the most important aspect because most people are getting the HiTechs for the sound it produces.

In any case, Phat thinks he could get the STi style mufflers replicated top to bottom with the quad slant cut tips and all, with a few differences. The HiTechs are not straight through (however that does make them street legal) while this new one will be. <snip>

In short, consider Phat to have a similar role for this sale to that Lambros has for the HiTech sale

I believe there are other reasons why he's not on here forums. But I'll leave that for others to tell beacuse I'm not 100% clear on the details.

Although I know these were a prototype, in the final product. Will that bar connecting the two tips still be there? What are they? And will the tips be all polished up like the STi ones? Or stay how they are?

Thanks for that, Tony. Heh-he, as Tony said, like the GB for HiTech, I am merely organising a group buy for this from Phat. Phat's not selling mufflers to forum members directly at this time. :D

As Jim stated in the OP, the bar will not be there in the finished product.
