POD Vs HKS in Stock Air Box - POD is better

POD Vs HKS in Modified Air Box (No Res. + bigger air intake under bonnet or in the front gaurd) - Panel is better :)

This is for general driving.. tried lots of different setups in my old cars (es my old Corolla.. and the Modded Airbox + Panel ended up being the best by a bit!

Have to agree with that too. you really do need to isolate the pod from the heat, which is hard in the cramped engine bays today. Getting more air to the panel should always give better results for street, stop start traffic etc.

Sure, the pod will absorb more of the stagnant heat when the car is stationary, however once the car is moving, this shouldn't be an issue because there's a fresh charge of air when you are on the move.

Yep, but i mean for the majority of (my) driving anyway, I found the car just ran like a dog with it! Of course, doing a setup like the APS in guard CAI works well too with a pod - is the HKS Suction reloaded similar?

I fitted up the panel filter and removed the resonator on mine yesterday. Noticeable improvement, also noticeable improvement in turbo spool noise and bov recirculation, something i don't mind. Worthwhile mod for minor expenditure as factory airbox definitely needs more breathing.

Its not a proven mod, but I definately felt an improvement with the panel filter, seems a bit punchier down low.. we're not talking kw's though.. just response seems better.

I'm planning to remove the reso one of these days - is there enough room/worth it to run a air duct/pipe into the box?

The chamber where the resi sits is seperated from the engine bay, i don't really see a point in needing to plumb in some ducting.

Airduct from the foglight surround can be done. Sleepergtb has it and Phat will be installing mine soon. Nice simple, discreet and easy mod. Requires modding to the foglight surround.

removed the resonator tonight and Im loving the new sound, the car reving sound is much lower (and gruntier) than before and you can make out the BOV sound too :D ... too early to see if the car feels any more responsive (possibly... but it could be a placebo effect)

now, I think I might need to get me one of those HKS filter and the airslip intake mod Phat GT is selling

thanks for the tip

Hey guys,
I've just joined the forum and plan to replace the stock filter pretty soon. I've always previously used K&N filters though.... how does the HKS filter compare? Any thoughts? Does one have any particular benefit over the other?

BTW... I have a 3.0R-B. My understanding is the filter is the same part as GT and Impreza?

Cheers,
Deucer.

NOOOOOO DONT DO IT

K&N Will kill your MAF, you will need to drive around with contact cleaner and the Torx screwdriver so you can clean the MAF every five minutes

Put simply, dont put an Oil Based Filter in a Subaru (unless it runs on a MAP) K&N is oil based.. HKS is Dry Type

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks suff, yep that makes sense. I figured that would be the case but preferred not to put words in peoples mouths. So this brings me to another two questions...
(1) How many cleans can the HKS handle before it needs to be disposed?
(2) I've heard suggestion that the K&N's are only a problem of your over-oil the filter. Clearly whether or not you over-oil your filter would be trial & error and at your risk. Has anyone actually stuffed the MAF sensor in a Subaru because of a K&N filter?

Cheers,
Deucer.
