dwayne wrote:OK, so given that they are yet to be made would it be a good idea to gather interest (another group buy thread aaargh  ) on who wants a Phat Dump Pipe so the right number can be manufactured? That way those of us who have been wanting one for ages can have our opportunity to commit and make a deposit so we don't miss out.

Sorry for the runaround, dwayne (and anyone else). It's still very touch and go at the moment, which is why MY07GT and myself cannot get any confirmation on when they will become available for sale. That's why there is no thread to sell Phat's dump pipes either for sale or in a group buy even though there are quite a lot of people interested.

The dump pipes are continually being made regardless, but are being exported to Japan and North America, who are willing to pay more for them. It's just trying to get Phat to leave a batch alone so that it can be sold to forum members. At the end of the day they are his dump pipes and his choice on where and who they are sold to.

Now with the introduction of the centre pipe group buy, Phat has given priority to those wanting to buy the entire set (centre, muffler, DP). I will be handling that. For people outside of the group buy wanting just the dump pipe, the last I heard Phil (MY07GT) is your man (I think).

No worries, I understand Phat's position, makes good business sense and I don't blame him. Looks like I might go for mufflers and DP perhaps, and get a centre pipe made up locally (as suggested by Dave aka GTSPECBSTI)

Ah, decisions decisions. Plus convincing the missus

** UPDATE AS OF SATURDAY MARCH 28TH **

Senator's finally gonna take one for the team and volunteer his car for a day or two so that it can be measured up for the jig ... on a weekday!!!!

So next week will see the centre pipe being measured for the jig. Phat will also make a batch of dump pipes for those getting the centre pipe and dump. Both should be available by mid April. I'll try to get Phat to produce more dumps for those wanting to buy dumps only. However please be aware priority will go to those buying the entire set (dump, centre, and mufflers).

** UPDATE AS OF WEDNESDAY APRIL 1ST **

Thanks for everyone's patience. Senator's car has been submitted and Phat will go at measuring up the centre pipe so that a jig can be made. If all goes well a jig should be ready by tomorrow to start producing the centre pipes next week.

Phat's trying to decide between going with x2 hot dog resonators or a 12" mini-muffler. The straight through muffler should be quieter compared to the resonators while still have good flow. But let's see what he decides to go with tomorrow.

Phat spent the day on Senator's donated Liberty getting the centre pipe test fitted for the jig. So far so good! Once the jig is finalised the centre pipes should be ready for production in 2 weeks.

Here are some snaps. Again, these is just a test fitting so mild steel was used. The production version will be all stainless steel.

The x2 resonator setup, one after another, for the most low noise level possible under idle and cruising.

Where the centre meets up with the dump pipe. There's a flex joint in there.
Image

Phat was toying with the idea of using mini mufflers in lieu of the two resonators. Unfortunately the stainless steel one on the right hung too low. The smaller one on the left was a good fit, but was not available in stainless steel yet (still a few months away). These would have allowed for even less noise during idle and cruising. Perhaps the smaller one in stainless steel down the track in version 2? :P
Image

The Y-pipe joint. Properly angled cut pipes that are welded together and not two pipes crunched together by a bracket.
Image

Another picture near the Y-pipe. Notice the flange before the split. The Phat centre will be a 2 piece. This makes shipping as well as transporting around much easier.
