If they're 18x8.5 +44's then the wheels & tyres will protrude past your guards and need rolling if you want them to be legal or don't want wheel to body contact when you hit large bumps.

I beg to differ on "sititng past the gaurds". They will sit within the gaurds, and a 225/40/18 at a 45 offset does not scrub, and 1mm won't make a difference. If lowered you MAY come inot scrubbing issues, but a simple roll is all that would be

+1

With my old rims (18x9 +35) all that was needed to make them fit was to roll the guards and a slight pull + camber. So 18x8.5 +44 should be a breeze.

If you have to do anything than "slight" negative camber, then I dont belive they should be fitted to the vehicle. Thats my 2 cents anyway.

There's a proper and improper way to do things IMO.

Granted, I don't have those wheels in that width & offset (and had I been happy with that I would definitely have purchased some Gravels from Troy!) but I did the measurements & calculations before purchasing and concluded they'd definitely sit beyond the guards at least with the level of camber I had at the time.

I ended up purchasing a set of 18x7.5 +48's which at the outermost point of the tyre (225/40) sits in about 7.5mm from the outer edge of the guard. If I compressed my front shocks I'd maybe barely scrape through without the tyre edge hitting the inner rubber guard liner, but I wouldn't bet on it. At 18x8.5 +44, that's 16.7mm further out - or on my car at least, a 9.2mm protrusion that'd need to be managed with camber and/or guard rolling. That was CBF territory for me but that isn't the case for everyone.

Plenty of room on the rears though.

Maybe better discussed (or dissed :-p) in another thread!

(my posts were borderline on-topic... I think)

is there any noticeable difference or advantage going with 225/40 or 235/40 profile tyres for the 18x8.5 rims? / what would you recommend?

Had a read of all post but couldn't see anyone asking this one yet, do the gravels (STI replica) clear brembo's?
