Sydney Dragway - 12th December

Sydney Dragway - 12th December

Postby Rome_BRZ » Tue Nov 13, 2012 9:35 am

Hi all,

I think there would be a bit of interest for another drag meet, last time we only had 3 Club Liberty members actually competing so hopefully more of you will come out and represent this time

Cost
Competitors - $50
Spectators - $20

Time
- Gates open at 4:30pm
- Scrutineering from 5pm - 7:30pm, or until they reach their quota of 180 cars
- Drags start at 6pm and go through until around 10pm, with a break at 9 for burnouts.

What you need
- Current drivers licence
- An approved helmet: see here
- Long-sleeved shirt or jacket
- Long pants
- Enclosed shoes (no thongs or sandals)

Scrutineering
For those who haven't been before, there are two gates to enter WSID, if you are competing you want to enter the competitors gate (obviously  ). Once you're in, find somewhere to park and walk up to the main garage in front of the carpark to sign in, there are ladies sitting at tables inside there. Once you fill out your details and get your wrist strap, you can drive your car to the other side of the garage and line-up for scrutineering. They basically do a quick look over your car to make sure it's running fine and has no leaks or anything dangerous exposed etc. They will also check your helmet.

Drag Racing
Once you're clear, you can go line-up in the lane you've been designated. You stay in this lane all night. Your lane will be called up to race, and they will split up your lane as you come up to the drag strip, one car on the left side, next car on the right, next on the left etc. Make sure you have your headlights when you come up to stage at the actual drag strip. Once you've done your run, you loop back around (turn your headlights off once you get to the end of the strip) and go around to collect your time slip from the booth, then line up again in your lane!

For those who don't know how it all works when you come up to the drag strip, see if this link helps: Drag Racing Basics

Last time I was at WSID there was a dude there in his Lancer LS so no excuses why more of you can't come join us, it's fun!

Mick

I'm interested to see what the difference is going from auto to manual.
Will you be having any runs at the same power with the different tranny or you doing more power at the same time?

Same setup but hopefully slightly more power (less drivetrain losses).

I reckon the launch will be about the same but top end better due to gearing

Hopefully can run an 11 with the auto first

No can do for this wed, I need a few weeks notice as I'll need to take a day off work and besides need to do a little bit more work to the Blue Bullet almost had an engine bay fire after a hot lap, turns out new turbo gets a bit hot at 20psi and started to burn some of the sound deadening that's near the dump and up-pipe. Btw what's more effective in terms of heat shielding for dumps/up pipes and headers? Heat wrapping or ceramic coating?

Have fun at the drags I can't wait to go, did a 0-100 test and got 4.82 seconds stalled to 10psi @ 3000rpm

So what day? 21st or 28th? I went out last week but was a little disappointed because there were heaps of stoppages all night.
